Man...consider the source.

Some register jockey at a Blockbuster has an opinion....big whoop. He only knows what they tell him to know.

I feel you on this one and that is one of the major reasons I BUY my movies aaaaaand....I do it online.

Good luck for next time.

Let him stay ignorant.

I had the same problem with a co-worker of my ex-girlfriend. He tried convincing us thatwhen watching a Blu-Ray you can see how "fake" the special effects are. The people that usually say this are the same ones who swear every special effect looks fake.
I also agree on the video rental store employees. Most of them know jack about movies, technology, life, their moms, etc. This is why I use the Redbox

You could have been really mean to him. Like tell him that he would be able to notice the difference if he could afford a nice TV but since he works retail that doesn't seem likely in the near future. But that would have been mean.

But some employees of the other locations I'm not familiar with will have certain strengths, like I've noticed a complete anime fanatic one time. Overall, makes me appreciate my local blockbuster a bit more.
I definitely think that there are some great employees at video stores. I worked at a Hollywood Video for a year, and I consider myself fairly knowledgeable on film and games and technology also. But I was an exception not the rule.

It gets worse. When I politely disagree and explain the difference between upscaled 1080 and true 1080p, he proceeds to tell me that Blu-ray is ruining movies, stating that special effects look noticeably more fake with the increase in resolution.

Un-freakin-believable!

It's no wonder why there is confusion when it comes to consumer adoption of Blu, when there are idiots like this at places like Blockbuster that are misrepresenting the product.
I feel you frustrations. I'll take it a step further...

My Blockbusters plays Blu-rays on their TV without an HDMI cable.

I dropped Netflix recently because I got tired of the long waits for Blu-Rays. Does anyone have Blockbuster mail in service? If so, would they recommend it? I know this is off topic, but could not find a good thread on this. If anyone knows the thread, please post it.

I like it because you can trade your mails ins in store. While Online is usually "Long Wait" on rare and new titles my brick and mortar usually ahve plenty of everything much better than FLIX.

Its probably just a job to him. Millions of workers don't care about their job. They show up and do what they are told. He's obviously wrong and made himself look foolish.

Thats probably mostly accurate.

Entertainment is both necessary and expensive and lower income people cannot afford to go out every night. So movies (DVDs, cable/sat) become one of their primary sources of entertainment because they are cheap.

When they have built up a collection the last thing they want to hear is that it is now obsolete. Movies are one of the few things that are the same for both rich and poor. Bill Gates buys the same DVD copy of The Matrix that Joe Sixpack does, or at least that has been the case for a while. Now Bill Gates buys the Blu-ray (I hope), and the low income man is getting yet another inferior version of yet another thing (cars, houses, TVs, vacations, food, etc. ...... and now movies).

The existence of Blu-ray is, in a way, taking something away from low income people and some prefer to write it off as a fad rather than deal with it.

At least thats my whole take on it.

Just make a commercial with P Diddy that says its ok to have a BR Player and everything will be ok.
