I have had the 1000 for most of this year and love the thing. Yes, it has been known to lock up from time to time..but as a poster said..just take out the battery. I think it has maybe happened 3-4 times so far.

I used to own a Philips Pronto and though they have wayyyyy more customizing features, for the family, the 1000 is great.

It looks good...easy to program (unlike the Pronto) and its simple to use.

2 thumbs up

Why do I have to call? I know it doesn't! Here is another link telling you the same, and this is from Don the head support tech at logitech.

I repeat, 890 CAN control Z-Wave lights and the 1000 CAN NOT!

Oh this is a good page. See there is no check mark for Z-Wave™ Lighting, but there is one for the 890.

love blu or go home!.....I WAS WRONG AND I"LL BE THE FIRST TO ADMIT IT!!!

The 1000 CANNOT do Z wave. I called Harmony again..just after getting an email from them and they both said no!! (Not to mention the website saying so?) I just wanted to make sure. Not sure why the other person at Harmony said yes but...the answer is NO!!! The lighting we did must have either been on the 890 (which I don't think so) or it wasn't Zwave. I'm sorry for any confusion. I hate wrong information!! But that's what this site is all about..getting it right!

I love my "One".
Easy to use and solid reliability for one year so far. It replaced my 3 year old 659 which still works fine but has been relegated to the "bin o' remotes".

Yeah no hard feelings It's all about getting the right info out there so others know. The only lighting switches that will work with the harmony 1000 is IR, I know Lutron, and Insteon make some so maybe that's what you used. They need line of sight so it's not anywhere near as cool a Z-Wave lights.

I've had the Harmony 1000 for several months, and on occasion it locks up. Perhaps and average of once every 2 weeks. As others have noted, the only cure is to remove the battery and put it back in, causing a reboot. What makes it a hassle is the battery cover is difficult to get off, and the battery is in tight.

I got the 1000 for my technology challenged wife. The touch screen "Watch TV" or "Watch DVD" is all she can handle. All those buttons on the other Harmony remote controls scare her off.

Other problems I have with the 1000 are when it suddenly goes spastic. After having pressed a touch screen option, like entering a channel or the up-down cable page arrows it will inexplicably go somewhere else entirely, as if it got hopelessly confused and just picked somewhere at random.

If it was just me and I didn't have to consider my wife's issues, I would have gotten a different model.

Have you tried the update on the firmware or software?

Call Harmony. They have always helped.

I had my 1000 stop and would not charge. Harmony gave me a new one and I have not had any problems.

I guess I was lucky in that I haven't had any problems with my 1000? Are you using it in RF or IR mode? I only use mine thru IR now but will be using it in RF when I get my Projector room done next summer.

Other things to take into consideration when buying these Harmony remotes...Batteries!! The 1000, One, 890 and the 880 all have rechargeable batteries in them. The 670, 659 and 550 do not. The use AAA batteries. So although they are less expensive models they do go thru the batteries. I bet I replace a set in my 550 ad 670 once every 2 months? And if you don't have batteries then you're not screwed but very inconvenienced. That's the nice thing about the rechargeable ones. Even if the remote runs out and you need to charge it you can still use it while it's sitting an the base station.

your really both right lol it used to say everywhere that it would do z-wave lighting. on amazon and even the companies website. the decision was then made to not support z-wave on the 1000 before release, sadly the info on the websites was not changed until many months after release and a bunch of people were quite angry when they realized the goof.

so
the harmony 1000 will not do z-wave but it used to claim it did lol

Hard to beat for $200.00

I purchased a used 1000 on E-Bay. 7 months later, it stopped charging. Harmony replaced my unit with a new one. Can't get better then that!

I updated the software and firmware for my Harmony 1000. Too early to tell if the update will solve the locking or "getting confused" problems.

A couple of other problems I've been having, and I was able to solve one of them during the update:

1. When turning on the equipment with the 1000 and setting it to one of the activities, if the chosen activity is a different one than was last set, the remote would not set the AVR to the new input, and would always leave it at the last-used input. I have a Denon 2308. The problem turned out to be with the warm-up timing. After turning on, the Denon is not ready to receive a change of input signal for almost 9000 milliseconds. So I just kept bumping up that timing until finally it worked. The default timing of 3000 ms was way too short.
2. After turning on the equipment with the 1000 and choosing cable TV as the activity, the default screen on the remote is the one with all the play/pause buttons. I want it to be the tuner screen, the one with all the numbers 1-9 and the cable box page/menu buttons. I see no way to change this, unless I'm blind and can't see it for some reason. Any ideas?

I have the same issue...I emailed Harmony and will let you know what I find out.
