The gear makes me drool, but the room is less than stellar. You know this, but don't care and that's exactly how it should be.

Home theater's aren't 100% equipment, and I think that's where the 'negative' comes from. It does look cramped, but I have a friend who's an audiophile and has more gear than you do in a smaller space. I haven't heard his system (haven't been in his neck of the woods) though I'm sure you hear everything you should exactly where it is supposed to be.

Would I want to watch a film here? The speakers would distract me I think, and from the pic (I'ts just a pic) it looks confined so no...but I'd love to listen to classical music here no question, or even close my eyes and listen to the sound.

But like I said up top, you're the only one it needs to work for.

Why even address or acknowledge bad comments? The room may not be the most ideal, but i've lived in NYC all my life, so I know a thing or two about tight quarters.

B&W speakers may not be for everyone, but for anyone to discount the 802D's and HTM1D as serious speakers is someone you are better off ignoring.

Regarding the HTM1D, the few people I know who have them, also have them on the floor, on spikes or on a DIY solution. Obviously, people saying these things about the center channel don't know what they are talking about and don't realize that the HTM1D is over 200lbs...lol. Yeah, you put that on your little AV rack and see what happens.

I do care and would like a bigger room, but unless one of you wants to build it for me or donate $450,000 so I can execute my plans for the addition, it ain't gonna happen.

Absolutely. Room constraints are very important, but they aren't only about size. They're more about reflections and other sonic characteristics. Luckily, my room doesn't have live reverberations or other issues. But yeah, I've noticed it's small.

As long as the person is happy with their own set-up, that's all that matters. I really enjoy looking at the home theaters, but I didn't realize it was a competition for ratings.

I'm seem to remember a thread about the compromises we all have to make in order to enjoy our Home theaters... emphasis on the Home for many, not the theater... Prerich, I believe you may have authored such a thread...

It's not a competition but when a quality setup gets 1.5/5, something is screwy.

I just meant you're more concerned with the equipment & the performance you get, and are therefore happy with what you have and making it work was all

I know that i know what i'm talking about at least. but all we were saying about the speaker being on the floor is about coupling, the key thing you mentioned was that people you knew had them on the floor on spikes this is what helps decouple them. that's all i was saying at least, i wasn't talking about the height of the center

Well I have an idea why dont you bring all your equipment over, set it all up in my living room because it is quite big and see what the ratings will be. (but I get to keep the equip as well)

That Center is designed to be on the floor whether its on spikes or just laying flat on the floor
Quote:

B & W Website

The HTM1D is specifically intended to be mounted on the floor, its low profile allowing a large projection screen to come within 600mm (2 ft) of the floor. Supplied with the system are four heavy-duty height-adjustable feet. This design allows up to 40mm (1.6 in) of vertical adjustment so that the speaker may be tilted back to face more towards the listeners. They have a case hardened spike at one end for carpeted floors, and a non-marking rubber pad on the other for more vulnerable surfaces

They come with spikes. This is a pretty big center channel. Unless you want your AV stand to collapse, it should remain on the floor as it was intended.

Heheh, yeah I'll be right over. I'll put the HTM1D in my backpack and carry the 802Ds under each arm.

Seriously, the system excels in playing content exactly as it is mastered. In many cases, this creates the sonic illusion of being in a MUCH bigger space than I'm in. I am in no rush to move into a bigger room.

As for the HTM1D, the center imaging is perfect--sounds like the dialog is coming right from the screen. So I have not needed to use the front feet. I am only using spikes on the stands of the N805s because they are a bit wobbly and more susceptible to vibrations. The 802D and HTM1D are built like brick sh*thouses and very heavy. I almost stabbed myself to death putting spikes on my previous N802 which were only about 125 lbs each and there was no notable improvement in the sonics. I'm not gonna go through the trouble of putting spikes on two 175-lb 802Ds and the 200 lb HTM1D and risk puncturing an arm or leg for no real sonic benefit. Plus, I sometimes move the speakers an inch one way or another, or change the angle they're toed in. Just last night my buddy was over and we decided that toeing in one of the 802Ds another cm improved the soundstage a bit. It was hard enough to move as is. If it was on spikes, slight adjustments like that would be a huge undertaking.

He has it on a rug though. On hardwood, there might be some reverberations and reflections, but a thick rug, not so much. I say this because this is how it is at my dealer's showroom. http://www.stereoexchange.com/showrooms

As well as how the people I know with HTM1D's have it set up, and they all sound fine. The people who have it spiked or with DIY configurations have delicate floors, or flat carpeting.

Woohooo....some dude just bought my old sofa I had advertised on Craigslist. Paid me $140 cash, I helped him cram the sofa in his truck and he drove off.

Now in addition to better HT seating, I've got my living room back and some cash for dinner!

Greg, don't feel too bad about a person's comments. This is my wire setup. It makes yours look very organized.

The speaker stands under the Martin Logan center channel are very high quality and expensive plastic stands that I picked up at Wal-Mart for $7 each. They do their job.
