Things are looking up for Red? You're being kind, I'm sure. The current situation can only be put down to data manipulation.

It should obvious why they felt the need for this concerted effort. If HD DVD wins simply on the basis of such petty actions (rather than the real merits of the format), then I fear for the rest of humanity's future.

I feel I'm doing my part, buying 1 BR disc every Sunday since I bought my player. I agree that this spike is not worth worrying about. It's a war, sometimes you lose battles.

I am just wondering if the Hd dud fanbois are going to take advantage of the generous return/refund policy of Amazon? Can Sales for the next few weeks show as a negative? Lol

The one-day trend already appears to be reversing itself, with the HD-DVD top 10 headed sharply downward. I'll keep checking it but Videoscan is more likely the real metric to watch.

I questioned the logic of this plan, as people were defering purchases and buying discs they may not have bought otherwise. Kind of defeats the purpose of enjoying what we want when we want in the interest of some type of "format war skirmish victory".

For questioning the logic, the post was deleted and I could not post for a few days.

I wonder if someone critical of BD would have gotten the same there. (in a borat tone) NOT.

I agree the HD DVD effort is weak at best, but they made a point that they can at least organize an effort. I don't think Blu-ray could have pulled it off if we tried. Organizing a Blu-ray effort for anything is like pulling teeth. Ask are you in on something and the union busters respond with every reason under the sun not to support the cause. We're good at making jokes and posting sales charts though. Anyone want to start a Blu-ray little league?

When Ford offered lots of no-financing deals on cars, the dealer I was producing commercials for said, "This looks good up front, but these people buying cars now are the ones who were going to be buying cars in a month or two. We'll have a great month this month, then it will be dead for a long time."

He was right.

Maybe the same thing will happen here?

Default yeah, I`m scared....not

If we organized a buy day it should be done and planned ,not that i or too many people care or have a fear of an hddvd planet ,ha yeah right.Whopee hddvd has had a few good releases ok...a few people pre ordered stuff they are gonna bail out on wow..since when do we concern ourselves about small fish... yeah the lack of fox titles bugs me ,its a process just like anything new that comes out some weeks are slow ohhhh.maybe the BD studios will become neutral ......hahahahahahahaha OMFG !!! Just keep buying the way we have been ..all things take time ...how does that saying go ? Oh yeah, If you sit by the bank of a river long enough you will see the bodies of your enemy float by. I`ll stand by and watch the carnage ,thanks.
Good, bad, I`m the guy with the gun.

I have faith in that the people here have made smart purchases and support the right format. And no amount of crappy hddvd buy days are gonna change that.

^^ Indeed... I WILL NOT buy a movie just to get the rival format PO'd. Give me titles I want to see (e.g. Dirty Dozen, Enter the Dragon, POTC, Spideys, Star Wars) - and I will buy. I already have Planet Earth on pre-order... I will wait for deserving titles...

pretty much...

BD doesn't need a day where we all buy...they already are getting enough support from us....

now the new buyers have to make some moves...

I'll wait for the newer titles that I want to come out....there aren't many more titles out now that I actually want..

other than Training Day and a few others..

First post!

Someone else mentioned that there shouldn't be a format war at all. I am in complete agreement with that.

That being said, if there must be a war, give them hell!

Welcome OmegaSoldier!
Like it or not - there is a battle raging on...
We're leading - thanks to the PS3... but, there are zealots on the other side that can unite and cause "surges". Small surges, no doubt - but we can't let them build up any momentum.

After this battle's won - we'll have to tool up for convincing our SD friends to join in with the Blu-ray revolution... Needless to say, we're in for a long haul!

What is interesting to note is that by pulling sales into the near term, they are in effect starving themselves of sales in the out terms... the car manufacturers found this two years ago when they had all the free financing deals and incentives.... they swung all those thinking about a purchase to the near term, and have been paying for this short sighted approach with crappy sales ever since....

Lets all wait to see how the sales go in the next couple of weeks, the spike is unsustainable.

For what it's worth, BD and HD DVD are pretty much even as of this writing from the top 10 through 100 averages.
