Like sfmarine says, British narrator on the UK version and an American narrator on he US.

But I'd also like to add that I think the US version only has a 1080i video as opposed to the 1080p found on the UK BD.

The BBC version with British narrator is also available in the US. The Discovery Cannel version has a different narrator.

The PQ for BBC edition is better I believe.... The Discovery versions are 1080i.

Can anyone review the UK release of Equilibrium? Also any news of a region 1 release of Brotherhood of the Wolf? They are two movies I would consider buying as imports.

Here's what I've ordered from Amazon UK:

Sweeney Todd (steelbook)
Black Narcissus
Great Expectations
Zulu
Sophie Scholl

They are all great discs, but I want to emphasize that 'Zulu' really looks exceptional:

DVD Beaver also has some amazing comparison shots of this BD and the (really horrible) DVD issues that preceded it.

I just received Equilibrium this morning. I had the domestic dvd release, replaced by the great HD-DVD import, and now this BD. It's all downhill from here though.

To begin with the SQ is disappointing with only a 640k DD track as opposed to the 2mbps DD+ track on the HD-DVD.

The PQ is another issue as well. As mentioned before, the box incorrectly lists the AR as 2.35:1, but instead opened up to 1.78:1. So, while the PQ is "comparable" to the HD-DVD, not being in the OAR is a deal breaker for me. At this point, whether the encode is good is a rather moot point.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but most should either track down the import HD-DVD, or just wait for the eventual domestic release whenever that happens.

That's discouraging, but thanks for saving me a bunch of money. I'm tempted to track down the HD-DVD. Where did you find your copy?

Those are two very good films, and it's too bad to hear about the Equilibrium problems. Hopefully it will be better when it finally makes it to the States.
I'm still not sure if the Canadian Sin City is the right version, or should I be looking somewhere else?
Oh yeah, just ordered the Planet Earth from amazon.uk, can't wait!

Good stuff here - I've been living in the UK for about 6 months now and haven't bought any Blu-Ray's because most I've seen are not region 1. Big case in point was Matrix set, which was only $45 at one point.

I'll have to check out Goonies - that might be a good one.

Isn't as bad since $ has gone up vs the pound a bit...still pretty expensive for any Blu-Ray at a brick-n-mortor store.

The Goonies UK BD is good. DD True HD track, and only a moderate amount of DNR (at least by ****ing WB standards), but all in all, a good representation of how this film looked in theaters.
