It's this sort of mentality that has become a standard way of life for many people. They just ACCEPT things that should NOT be accepted. It's - unacceptable on any level.

You buy a product - it works, period. If it fails or quits, it is replaced as long as said product is covered. If your product fails because of a bug and the answer to the problem is just wait it out - BS. A firmware or update needs to be issued ASAP. If not, some type of compensation needs to be given. Period.
It's not like it's a hardware malfunction. It's a software glitch which happens with many electronic items, even Sony items. It's only going to be down for 24 hours.... it will be back and working before a patch could be made. Blackberry outages..... anyone? Firware updates that brick consoles..... anyone? DTS bomb in Onkyo receivers... anyone? These things happen... is it wonderful when it happens? No. Does it mean the manufacturer is an abyssmal failure? No.

Does it mean you need to flog someone that thinks the opposite of you? No.

I don't feel I flogged anyone. I apologize if you or anyone else interpreted it that way.

Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight. Because the previous posts and the posts in the other two threads are totally Zune owners flogging other people.

I must've been crazy to think it was the old "My ipod is better than your Zune" debate. No reason for Zune owners to be defensive at all, is there? Just mentioning you own a Zune gets the Apple kiddies riled up.

Well my 8GB zune is fine and has been fine.

Any 30GB owner turn their on yet see if they are working again. Microsoft is said that the problem will be fix before the next leap year(2012).

I didn't try my Zune yesterday, but it's working this morning with no issue at all. It's even paused in the middle of my podcast where I left it on Monday. It's an older 30gig model, so if it were going to have a problem I'd expect that it would have.

Good to hear. Now i wonder if the owners that had the lock up did have a good morning with their zunes booting back up.

I'd rather have my Zune go out for 24 hours than owning an ipod and having to have my battery and hard drive replaced by Apple every year I own it

then you have had good luck with the ipods. Every friend of mine that owns a ipod has always had issues with theres and wish they had something better. I know three people that have the ipod with the hdd and as soon as the warranty gave out on theres they had to get new ones because of hdd failure. When I worked at RadioShack selling Zunes and Ipods, if the person already owned a ipod they would complain about how they broke and why they were having to get a new one. I did retail for almost 4 years, I have heard way tooooo many ipod stories on their reliability. The ONLY complaint I ever heard about the Zune was the amount of accessories for it. One of the girls that worked at GameStop next door to the RadioShack I was working at told me her Zune story of how she was really ticked off one night and threw her Zune (while playing a song) into the wall and put a hole in the wall before falling and hitting the ground, picked it up and it was still playing the song without showing any sides of damage. It was still working fine months after that when she sold it. Do that with an ipod and you can guarantee yourself that you will have a fancy paper weight. I hate ipods

My friend says not only did Microsoft fix it but they installed Battletoads.

For years now only Gamestop employees have had Battletoads. Could this actually be true that microsoft put it on the Zune?

Default Y2K8 Zune quirk really a Freescale bug?

http://www.engadget.com/2009/01/03/y...freescale-bug/

Quote:
Well, here's an interesting twist to this story. That mysterious and completely enraging "Zune bug" that cropped up on the final day of 2008 may not have been restricted to Microsoft PMPs. A much smaller cadre of Toshiba Gigabeat users reportedly experienced similar issues, and some even noted that the whole "discharge and re-date" rigmarole fixed their unit right up as well. Upon further investigation, it seems that the issue may actually reside in the Freescale MC13783 processor, which -- coincidentally enough -- is used in the Zune 30 and a few of Toshiba's alternatives. We suppose it's a little late to ask, but did any non-Zune owners experience similar issues just prior to the dawn of '09? Or were you too busy, um, partying like it was 1999?
