I think people should just take a razor to every new case. That way they are already broken in and they won't care anymore what kind of condition they are in. It's like when you buy a new car, the first dent is the worst, after that you don't care because it already has a dent. So get the first ding out of the way on the cases and call it a wrap.

haha you paranoid Americans with security stickers. Here in Australia all we do is peel off the shrinkwrap, open the case and pop in the disc.

Here we have to unwrap it, remove the security stickers, sign over our first born children, buff the case up, remove the sticky residue, submit a DNA pattern, open the case, buff the fingerprints off, give a saliva sample, and then we can pop in the disc. That way the MPAA knows that we legally own the copy of the movie.

I mean, as long as the movie plays perfectly then obviously that's all that matters, but even though I like buying used Blu's I do get a little peeved when I'm sent one from an Amazon seller that has a less than perfect case. I'm going to go to BlockBuster and see if they have any Blu cases they want to get rid of.

I've found that lighter fluid is very effective in removing the excess sticky residue from those awful stickers. (Remove the insert first, though.)

As for being anal about the cases, yeah--I'm as anal as anyone here. I even save the shrink wrap on all non-plastic cases (e.g., the new Criterions) to protect them from wear and tear.

Over the years, I've perfected the removal of security stickers. When I first started collecting DVDs.. I'd nearly rip the plastic cover trying to pry open the "pull here" side of the security sticker. The best way is to cut down along the middle of the sticker with a knife or box cutter and peel from the middle (or you could just leave the sticker on.. but it's ugly).

I'm also careful about other people handling things. It might seem anal but, hey, you're just protecting your stuff. I had a friend who ate a sandwich while checking his email on my computer and nearly every crumb off the bread fell into my keyboard. Did he notice? No. He didn't seem to care.

Nobody has had the chance to handle my Blu's yet, but I do lend out DVDs occasionally and sometimes I notice that they've been mishandled or abused. Just look at the DVDs they try to lend you in return and if it's in bad shape.. chances are they don't care about the quality. I can't lend DVDs to my mom anymore, as my little brother and sister (at this point, they are 11 and 12 years-old) DESTROY DVDs. They can kill anything in their path.

I let people borrow my DVDs. No one has else has Blu so no one's asked... but I'd be pissed if they messed up my stuff.

I never let anyone borrow anything not even family. Yeah I had that problem with the cheap print where it says blu ray coming off because of where the label is.

I cringe when somebody touches my Blus. Even other people that own Blu-rays. You will never see me touch anybody else's Blu's without asking, and I expect the same. They're my babies!

Yes, I am anal about my Blu-Rays, and DVD's. My neighbor borrowed my Dark Knight Blu, and left fingerprints on it, but at least no scratches. I might let him borrow from me again if that's the worst he does to my movies.

If I see someone putting prints on there they are going to get scolded though.

Oh man. I hate that too. I hate those blasted stickers, and the residue they leave behind.
Goo Gone works to remove it pretty well though.

Keep your blu's away from the women lol I'm anal with my blu's why shouldn't I be? We all pay a lot of money for them. I particularly careful with Band of Brothers. The steel case is nice and can easily scratch. It came with the outer slip cover so I use that to shield it as best as I can.
