Default AVR 1909 PCM question?

I am a proud owner of AVR 1909. The PCM soundtrack sounds a little muted when compared to DTHD and DTS MA sound tracks. The lossy DD sounds more powerful than the PCM. Anyone experiencing the same problem?

That's a function of the encoding on the disc not the receiver.

Proud owner of a 1909 here. And like many others here, it would take a lot to stray from the Denon brand...now upgrading to the 2XXX or the 3XXX is always a possibility. Hell, it's a certainty.

I also own a YAMMY 663 receiver. THE PCM soundtracks were sounding great in the YAMMY, very much comparable to DTSMA and DTHD sound tracks. PCM was sounding sharper than the lossy DD and DTS. PCM is muted in Denon for some reason. I need to play around a little bit this weekend. Any advise?

I got a Denon 1909 comparable to 789 last week. You'll not regret it

I went to the Denon website and did a comparison and the only difference is the AVR-789 has Video Conversion –Composite to S-Video to Component, the AVR-1909 does not, but the AVR-1909 has Video Conversion – Composite to S-Video to Composite, the AVR-789 does not. I don't know if either of the two features would be useful to me! Which would you buy???
There is no difference between the 1909 and 789 except for the ones you mentioned above. S-video will be obsolete pretty soon. Many receivers are going away with it. Same power specs, different model numbers . Why would you pay $649 for a 1909 when it is selling for 485$ in 6th Avenue electronics, free shipping, no tax. Use the Coupon code: AFLAUD25 during check out. Best of luck!!!!!

Maybe the YAMMY has a built-in boost that the Denon does not for the PCM tracks that are typically something like 10dB less output than the dts HR tracks to the best of my knowledge.

Same here. I love my 3808ci. It was pricey but well worth the money. I purchased this is an upgrade to my 2807. Now I have the 3808 installed in my HT room paired up to my projector and panasonic bd30. The 2807 is also still in service in my living room paired up with a PS3. Both are rock solid AVRs.

I will soon be an owner on the new Denon avr 1910. They are set to come out early in June!
You can find information on them at denon.ca if any of you are interested in learning more about it. (And if you discover anything overly important that you think I should know about it, that I haven't yet, please let me know )

Voila! Fixed it. Sounding better than the YAMMY. The "channel volume" for MULTI CHANNEL IN setting was set way too low. The PCM soundtrack is just awesome. I like it better than DTHD, no offense intended, just a personal preference

My Denon AVR 3803 has been serving me well for 6 years now. As it is an "old school" non-hdmi receiver, I now use it as a pre/pro and enjoy lossless audio in the anolog realm
