I agree that CFB needs a playoffs and I agree that the conference winners should get an automatic bid. However I also think like in the b-ball tournament, the higher ranked teams should get invited as well.

Have a 16 team playoff starting with the winners of these 11 conferences, plus invite 5 more teams according to national ranking. Have them seeded 1-16. Have the top 8 play the bottom 8, giving the top 8 home field advantage. Then have the top 4 play the bottom 4, giving the top 4 home field advantage. Then have the the top 2 play the bottom 2, giving the top 2 home field advantage. Then have the championship game at a neutral site.
