Yes, can't tell you which actor because I'm lazy too.

That would be Sir Lawrence Olivier...

HEY now he kicked butt in the matrix films. NO lets not start in about the matrix deal, I started a thread about that a month or so ago.

It is plausible that this form of entertainment could replace the cinema experience but not necessarily so.
I believe they did pull off something similar in Revenge of the Sith, but the CG actors were composited into a wide shot and were relatively far from the foreground. They also happened to be moving constantly, so it was hard for the viewer to discern visually if they were real.

Interestingly enough, there's a principle (called something paradox, since I don't remember what it's called exactly) that states that, the closer a visual stand-in looks to photorealism, the more attention the viewer will pay and the more minute mistakes he will notice. It has something to do with biological processes that allow us to distinguish between individuals or something like that. So this is why Gollum still looks "better" than any CG human, since our brains aren't being tricked into thinking that he actually might be real.

I liked Speed and The Matrix, but Keanu never seems to have any emotion. He was perfect in The Day The Earth Stood Still as an emotionless alien.

I think you're thinking of The Uncanny Valley, a robotics principle that also applies to CG film and video game characters.

Think you mean "Uncanny valley", which first came to our pop-cultural attention in reference to those creepy Polar Express characters...

(Which, to be fair, were supposed to reflect sketchy Chris Van Allsburg watercolors, but "fixed" with Robert Zemeckis's belief that Motion-Capture Can Cure Anything.<tm>)

Yup. That's what I was thinking of. I think I learned it in college (minored in digital arts) but have forgotten since.

This makes me think of James Cameron's Avatar. During an interview, he used the term "photo-realistic" CGI.
