God I thought Harsh Times was horrible. Yeah Bale gave a great performance, but the movie in general was just unappealing to me.

What a great list. This guy knows his stuff. I would add in addition to these:

Thriller a Cruel Picture/They Call Her One Eye
Suspiria
The Bird With a Crystal Plumage
The 400 Blows
A Band Apart
Tetsuo: The Iron Man
Me and You and Everyone We Know
Punch Drunk Love (I know Adam Sandler is in it but give it a chance)
THX 1138 (George Lucas what happened?)
The two films Tom Tykwer did after Run Lola Run are also worth checking out... That Being:
The Princess and the Warrior
Heaven

I remember that one. At the time, I thought it was cool because of the Ministry song in the soundtrack.

Dark Kingdom: The Dragon King
aka
Ring of the Nibelungs, Die Nibelungen, Curse of the Ring, Sword of Xanten

Unfortunately the U.S. cut is missing like an hour or so! But you can buy an international version ... but make sure you buy one that is long. I really hope this eventually is released on BD. You can netflix it, but it's the version missing about an hour.

IMO, it's a better film and story than any fantasy film including LotR
