I understand the benefits of two-channel music and I definitely do not want to start another debate between Dolby and DTS. However, I just want to answer the question in the original post.
I believe Dolby PLIIx is more advanced than DTS Neo: 6. It can go up to 7.1 full band-width channels and can also handle SACD and DVD-A. In addition, Dolby PLIIx has three modes: Cinema, Music, & Games. Neo: 6 has only Cinema and Music modes. This information is from their web sites. "DTS Neo:6 takes 2-channel (stereo) audio and completely transforms it into up to six full-bandwidth matrix channels of surround sound. Your 6.1- or 5.1-channel system will produce six and five separate channels, respectively, to match your speaker layout. DTS Neo:6 can also generate a center surround channel from 5.1 material." http://www.dts.com/Technology/DTS_Di...DTS_Neo_6.aspx "Dolby Pro Logic IIx is an extension of Dolby Pro Logic II technology. This highly sophisticated algorithm processes native stereo- and 5.1-channel material to produce 6.1 or 7.1 output channels. Dolby Pro Logic IIx expands choice in playback system configuration (allowing 5.1, 6.1, or 7.1 playback channels) and, when incorporated into an audio/video (AV) receiver or processor, allows a convenient." http://www.dolby.com/consumer/techno..._faq_1.html#q5 |
