Laurence Fishburne would work if it came down to it but I'd rather it didnt. However Michael Clarke Duncan would not work at all if people want this to be taken seriously for the simple reason he was the Kingpin....

Marvel is f%^&#$% up. What the hell is wrong with them, they as the actor want to get the most money and that is just business but to take out two actors from a movie just because the studio wants more profits but in the process messing up the movie experience with other actors. If they get rid of Samuel Jackson I won't be watching this movie because this is BS.

Out of the three, I can only envision Fishburne pulling it off. But realistically, I think cooler heads will prevail, if only for the fact I think they both kind of need each other. I think SLJ's days as a leading man who can carry a successful movie are behind him, and I think Marvel has pigeonholed themselves by writing a character that's essentially custom made for one actor.

Maybe SLJ as too much to do? Is he not scheduled to appear in 35 movies in 2009?

To be serious, in the end it won't change much as long as they pick the right person to play the character. I mean what impact as SLJ had on the role? We see him for about 90 seconds at the very end of Iron Man. It's not like replacing Robert Downey jr for Iron Man or such. If they play this right and pick the right guy (and please Hollywood producers no creativity on this like "let's cast Beonce in the role of Nick Fury! Yeah that would be so cool!"

This sucks big time

1. Why was Nick Fury re-drawn? This isn't the character we all grew up with. They shoulda killed off the original Fury and come up with a replacement as the new one, with his own name. No offense to Sammy, he's one of the greatest actors of our time IMO and I'm a big fan myself. But people don't change appearance mid-way through life, and neither should characters (beer bellys don't count ).

2. No Terrence??? Give me a freakin break. We have already gone through so many Rachel Daws' in Batman that I lost count. We need supporting actors to remain as constant as the main actors - hellooooo!!

I had high hopes for Iron Man 2, and now it seems they will screw it all up. Maybe Marvel should take some classes in Hollywood business, as they clearly don't realize making movies is different than selling comic books. And in the actor's defense, it's not always them saying no to a particular paycheck, it's their greedy agents and managers. Ok, done ranting

Many like his movies, you're not the only human on the planet.

And SLJ can play the cool/badass role on par with the best, so it's always a pleasure to see him do that. And yes, even though it sounds like an easy role to play, it can be screwed up with the wrong actor.

SLJ was in Iron Man for 30 seconds and now because he might not be in Iron Man 2 the movie is going to be screwed up?

The movie is about Iron Man not S.H.I.E.L.D.

However, i do not think he has excelled like that in any movie since then, and to be honest, we have seen just brief flashes of him as fury, so to replace him now would be better than letting him be in a full movie then replacing him!

Lemme help you with Rachel Dawes. The answer is 2.

They redid Nick Fury (along with relaunching a lot of characters, including Spider-man's origins) in the comics a few years back, so while it's not the Nick I'm used to, it is one the current comic fans will relate to.

Just go's to show that not every idea is all it's cracked up to be. I liked to older look of Nick Fury not because of Hoff but because that's how to character was created. Expanding on an existing character is OK but not completely changing him. Creators, writers, studios have got to learn to stop to futzing around things that have been established. To re-create a character completely and model him on a specific actor was a stupid idea in the first place. You just painted yourself into a corner for no good reason. This was as smart as the "Next Avengers" little kiddy hero movie that was released. They don't look like they were out of diapers.

Can anyone see a Wookie as Superman or a Klingon as the Martian Manhunter?

Just to clarify for those who don't know, the original white version of Nick Fury is still around in the comic books, and is the primary version of the character. That's the version that pops up throughout all the main Marvel books.

The Samuel L. Jackson inspired version is from a subset of books set in an alternate reality (the Ultimate universe). So to say he's the version that current comic fans will relate to isn't entirely true.

Regardless though, Jackson's already been introduced in the films as Nick Fury. Sure, it was a brief cameo, but it was an important one meant to kickoff the build to the Avengers movie. Re-casting the role now would fudge up the smoothness of that build and ruin a great moment from Iron Man, IMHO.

They could just hire George "CGI" Lucas to come in and put a new face on the character at the end of "Ironman" for future releases of the film. That would also make the existing Blu-ray and DVDs bonafide collectors items....sad part is, that could actually be reality.

Thanks for explaining that. I haven't collected comics in years, and was very confused as to why Nick Fury was now black?! I guess this Ultimate Universe was a way to kind of "modernize" existing "old" characters?

Anyway, if SLJ is not Fury, that is fine with me, as long as they choose a good replacement. I don't see him as Nick Fury (original) anyway, so it's no big loss in my eyes.

Favorite SLJ line, btw:
I've had it with this Mothertrucking snakes on this Mothertrucking plane!

Sounds like Samuel L. is holding out for a Nick Fury/S.H.I.E.L.D movie lol

If SLJ can't fill the movie with unintelligible cursing, he must play the lead character. . .it's in his contract.
