I had switched them to Small already with the crossover frequency set to 80hz(is there a better setting?) choices are 50, 80, 100, 150, 200.

Take note after you run MCACC if you want to hear your subwoofer in stereo mode the sub setting should be changed from yes to plus. Also you have a volume control on your remote for each channel including the subwoofer.
Ive run it many many times, It runs the first part, then I always have to scroll down to SB and switch it to yes, then it test it, says ok, and then says attention! subwoofer level too low, turn up volume on subwoofer.

* Does this mean my Subwoofer may be DOA? I have turned the nobs to the middle and all the way up, its always the same thing.

I got that error when my sub level was to low. I turned up the volume on the Sub itself to fix it.

What you need to do is test the sub.
Hook it up to your cd players analog output. Left or right channel it does not matter. Make sure the sub is turned all the way down before you do it.
Play a cd and see if you hear anything out of the sub when you turn up the gain on the sub.

Ok well i used the cable to plug the sub into the speaker port on the logitech sub and there was nothing, even with messing with all levels, I guess its DOA. Unless I tested it wrong.

You do get a green light when you turn on the sub?

Ive tried playing a movie in my PS3 using PCM and nada. Everything is hooked up wiht HDMI.

I feel like I have to be doing something wrong but Ive set it up like its supposed to.

edit* Well Im in the MCACC right now and the sub is turned to max and the setup still says subwoofer output level is too low. turn volume up on subwoofer.

Does the subwoofer have two RCA inputs? If the answer is yes, try a Y adapter (2 Male, 1 female) and see what happens. Connect the the subwoofer cable out of the receiver to the female side and connect both male sides to the subwoofer's inputs. I know from experience that some subwoofer have this problem with low levels.

If the subwoofer does not have two inputs, call Sony and have it replaced.

Don't know if this will help. I have a VSX-517 and I can adjust the level of the speakers from -10 db to + 10db. Maybe you have the sub set at -10 db.

The only other thing I can think of is if the crossover dial on the sub is turned all the way down to like 40hz or wherever the setting is, and thus isn't outputting any LFE from 40-80hz.

I tried with the crossover at max and min and inbetween. I got it repackaged and need to take it to UPS to send it back. The good thing is, My new speakers sound so good by themselves to me, I can live with out for a couple weeks. Guess Ill wait to get the CS and Surrounds.

Some of us are on a budget and dont need the sound that the higher end stuff will bring at the moment. The Sonys are putting out great sound for me and will last a long time until I can upgrade.
