I can only imagine that like Top Gun the SQ must be quite something for this BD, the racing, the cars...must be nuts.

I won't be getting it, just not something I wish to watch again even on BD, like Top Gun seen it once and that was enough for me but I bet it won't disapoint thos that do get it.

Just thought I'd weigh in (a decade later) about this film's PQ. For anyone edging to purchase this: do it. The PQ isn't great but it's an absolutely noticeable improvement on the SD. To be honest, I got drawn to this movie for its early Zimmer score, but the AQ praise here has already been sung. The PQ starts out choppy and disoriented but finds a nice middle ground about 15mins in - one which it maintains for most of the rest of the film. I haven't reviewed this yet but, when I do, I'll sit the PQ at either a baseline 3 or a cocky 3.5. As far as the movie itself goes, it's one of those classic throwaways of the 80s; one that is hell goofy but just charming enough to still be enjoyable today. Therefore, for this category of film, I don't need it to be 4+ in PQ. It ain't Braveheart, Aliens, or some other sweeping visual spectacle. It's a goofball, Cruise-centric, 80s jaunt. The end. If you like the score, the charm, the theme, then get it. It's a really underappreciated transfer. And I don't even like car racing.

This sums it up perfectly. I've always had a soft spot for this film, although it's basically Top Gun on wheels.

I like it better than Top Gun myself. I can't stand Top Gun.

I remember Hardee's selling happy meals with little boy Days of Thunder cars in the happy meals.

Oh wow, haven't seen this movie in forever! I haven't seen it on Blu-ray, but looking at those screenshots in the review, it looks pretty good for a 2009 era transfer? Some compression artifacts in the grain, but not outside of what I would consider normal. But no major EE or DNR that plagues that era. I'm sure a 4K transfer would look great, but those screenshots don't look bad? But again, I haven't seen it in motion. Maybe folks were just expecting EE and DNR back then...

Look how bad the Top Gun transfer has aged in comparison...

Why is this bumped, is it on sale or something?
