A blu ray player will play and upconvert your CD's so why not. Blu ray is the future so why bother with regular DVD's any more

yeah! for sure blu-ray format is awesome. and like many have said it, you will be an adict after getting a player. it's so bad to watch a standar dvd disc after you get a blu-ray player even if the you play the dvd discs in the blu-ray player using the up scaling featuring.

I hope there's an update to make those 1 & 0's version 1.3.

Blu-ray is worth the upgrade if you can afford the investment.

even starting small and building over time might be some peoples best option.

My 5.1 ch DD & DTS setup went bust, so now I'm watching my Blu-rays through my 37" Panasonic Veira LCD in 1080i with 2ch PCM sound.

I don't currently have the best setup compared to some people, but I notice the difference with a pretty standard LCD set.

One day I will get a bigger TV & a HD audio setup that will probably be when I get my house which will be in a few short years, I'm only 19 so a house is About 3 years away at least with all the saving I been doing from my current job.

I have big dreams for a nice home theatre, but I want to buy a house and nice things before I dig into the good stuff, no point having a nice home theatre if the rest of your house looks trash if you know what I mean.

You ask that question on a website called "Blu-ray.com." The answer is obvious!

Blu Ray is absolutely worth it.
I have the basic Sony 350 connected to my LG plasma...720p...via hdmi for the video and to my Yamaha RX-V659 via optical and can really tell the difference compared to SD movies. The video is much sharper, colors are better, etc. Audio is no different for me as I have no hdmi on my receiver so miss the audio improvement but that is something for a future upgrade.
I am very pleased with the purchase...even my wife is and that was amazing.

Default Just don't press stop!

If you have a 1080p tv, its moronic not to have a blu ray player to get the max picture and sound. The only problem I find with blu ray is that you can't use the stop button or shut off the movie on java application titles, it starts over everytime. Load times are a lot slower also, but that isn't a big issue for me, sure wish they would stop making java titles.

Is Blu-ray worth it?

Short answer: Yes, it is worth the extra $

Long Answer: It depends.
Yes, if you want to get the most from your TV that is 1080p and 37"plus or 32"or less 720p. They can look soooo much better than DVD as a source.
No, if you, like my mom, will keep your CRT TV and are still happy with VHS and think DVD isn't that huge of an improvment over VHS don't spend a dollar on Blu-ray. No disrespect to my mom or yours, if they are happy with nonHD format why convert them.
