Hey I would buy Congo, and watch them explore the city of Zinje or however you spell it.

I always loved Bruce Campbell's quotes on this movie:

"I’m Frank Marshall," he began. "I’ve produced all of Steven Spielberg’s movies. Interested? Okay, I’ve got a book written by Michael Crichton. I’m going to get John Patrick Shanley, the Academy Award-winning writer of Moonstruck, to adapt it. It’ll be shot by Allen Daviau, who did E.T. Will you make this movie? Well, congratulations! You just made Congo."

I have CONGO on Laser Disc and DVD and would definitely buy it on BD at the right price. "They" should do a Michael Crichton Blu-ray box set.

You know what? I could go for a remake of this flick. It is a guilty pleasure. But, if they could remake it in the same style as Rise of the Planet of the Apes, with Andy Serkis doing mo-cap with CG apes, and make the human characters more serious, then they could have a winner. They re-made Andromeda Strain, and they were talking about re-making Crichton's Westworld, so why not Congo?

Didn't realise congo had a bigger theatrical hit than Aliens.

It's 9 on the creature top whatever list.

Well this thing deserves to be out. Though I'm sure its been forgotten somewhat due to declining popularity as it does look dated/cheesy. That's it's charm now, even more than then.

Great book, mediocre film. RIP Micheal Crichton.

I agree. With a few notable exceptions, most books of this genre don't wind up making good movies for reasons I don't quite understand. Timeline was another fun book that turned into a lousy film. As successful as the Jurassic Park movies were, the books were still better.

The novels of Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child are similar. Their first, The Relic, turned into a really bad movie, although I don't what studio genius decided to eliminate the main character.

Same with Philip Jose Farmer. I always thought that the Riverworld (and Dayworld for that matter) series would have made a great cable series. Syfy tried it twice. The first time was a complete disaster when they changed the lead character to an American astronaut. The second time was slightly better, although they changed the lead character, Richard Francis Burton, who was a real-life person who explored the source of the Nile, who snuck into Mecca and who translated an unexpurgated version of The Arabian Nights, into the villain of the piece when he was a hero in the book. But it was a lot closer to the novel and it was obvious that the TV movie was a pilot for a series.

I always thought that Riverworld would have been a great series for Spielberg to have tackled (at least when he was still in his prime). Now I think that it could be something that Abrams, Lieber and Lindelof could do a great job with.

United Kingdom Congo on BD PLEASE

Really wish they'd release this title on BD. Saw it at the cinema on its release and it's still one of my fave films. Strange how lesser/worse films get released on BD yet others like Congo completely slip under the radar!?!?
Come on Paramount pull your finger out lol

Count me in. One of my guilty pleasures. Watched this a dozen times over the years on DVD. Day one purchase for me. Are you listening Paramount? The people have spoken.

This was an excellent movie from what I remember. Used to watch this when I was in high school rather frequently. Picked up the blu ray and am gonna watch it back to back with marky marks planet of the apes. Then the following evening I will start rewatching the new trilogy as I just picked up the 4k set last week for well under 30 dollars. It is a good time to be into these type of movies.

The novel is one of the more transportive experiences I have ever had reading a book. The film was a massive, & I mean massive, step down. That being said, don’t be surprised if it turns out on blu one day. We are in the age of the Vinegar Syndromes & Severins etc.
