I never said the movie was dreadful I said the BD is a perfect example on how not to release a movie. No losseless audio and no extras whatsoever. If this were a stupid Hollywood comedy then by all means release a BD25 with no extras but this is an Oscar nominated movie with wonderful acting, cinematography and editing.

It's not an ideal or reference-level release, but how you went from there to dreadful I'm not sure. The acting, cinematography and editing are all clearly shown on the BD. Extras are a western phenomenon where we've decided to idolize film makers and their methods rather than just appreciate the film. Mongol is not a western production. So while the absence of extras and high res audio is noted in the review, it doesn't significantly impact the overall rating.

There was no HD audio on the US release. Thats bad enough.

Yeah, I am well aware of that. There's a big difference between that and "dreadful". The DD is not ideal, but you can still get a sense of the excellent audio engineering that helps make this BD so special. If a better version comes along, I'll be the first to upgrade but I'd never call Mongol a "dreadful" BD.

To me this movie was all about the MOVIE and not the PQ/AQ, although it would have been great to see this in a reference quality release.

I think that Sergei Bodrov did an amazing job, given the complexities this film must have posed from every aspect of this production. I personally think he is a Director to be reckoned with in the future.

Ghengis Khan is one of the most interesting historic figures there ever was. And regardless of how one views his methods (as purported to be as we don't exactly know), he accomplished something that this world may never ever witness again. This is the reason I bought this movie and I am very happy that I did. Now bring on the 2nd part of this trilogy! I can't wait.

I suggest a rental before buying. It fell VERY short of how good it could have been. I dont feel like I know that much about Gengis Kahn after watching this and I thought that was the point. The film plodded a bit and just wasnt sure of itself.... I dunno.

Rent it first. It looked pretty good when I Nutflixed it.

Did you realize it's the 1st part of a 3 part story?

It just showed how he rose to power in Mongolia. The empire he conquered is what he is known for and that is never addressed in this film. What is addressed are ancient Mongolian customs and Temudjin's early life.

It will certainly be interesting to see if it gets made.

really enjoyed the movie, the charge of GK's cavalry with one sword in each arm is nothing short of amazing and one of the coolest battle scenes Ive seen

there are things I don't like as much, the pace is quite slow, despite being a movie about the most powerful man in history he always looks like the underdog, and some characters don't look Mongolian enough because they're portrayed by Japanese actors, who are all good, but not Mongolian

the main actor despite not being Mongolian really does an excellent job. Overall I think despite its inaccuracies its the best GK movie, sadly because there are very few and not very good
