I've played CoD4 and W@W, Warhawk, Resistance 1 and 2, and many other games. That being said, I've never experienced anything really terrible or gut wrenching. Only thing that sucks is annoying 12 yr olds playing M rated games and that don't stop talking, no matter what comes out of their mouth.

Playing on Xbox Live is completely different to me though. I've been appalled at what I've heard during a Halo match.

It can't be policed (and it SHOULDN'T be), but it is ridiculous. If only there was a way to punch people through the internet.

That's Halo though. It's in a lot more consoles than most any other game out there so of course you run into a lot more mouthy types. Also... I think one's game preferences and personality types are pretty intertwined. Halo fans I think are probably pretty aggressive types to begin with and anyone who thinks "Halo is OMZ the greatest EVAH" obviously doesn't have very sophisticated tastes in games... so they may be less mature in other areas as well. Not dumping on Halo... it's a decent multiplayer FPS. Just saying it's probably not good to judge the whole of XBL based upon the community of people that play Halo with regularity. Shadowrun for example has one of the most mature followings of any game I've ever played.

I honestly haven't done enough multiplayer gaming on PSN to have a real opinion about how much abuse is on it. I don't even have a headset for the PS3. I will say the few times I have played on PSN, I've seen teabagging and the one time I was in Home saw some pretty nasty language.

Home is the Only Place I see any Problems on the PS3, especially since I've also made my girl the same colour as me... a little brown, so yes, the Bigots and people with no common sense flock to that place... It's stupid.

So I know that you can't judge everybody on XBL by the people on Halo, so you ultimately can't judge the People on PSN by Home. But everybody's got to agree... this is a problem...

I mean you (robinandtami) seem to have a very good way of just ignoring the people who could offend somebody, or are strong enough to not get offended. My Best Friend Doesn't get offended by this stuff, and he's gay, I'm not, but I get so angry at people when they make fun of him, this includes online... Like Singstar... he posts his videos online, and he gets some Horrible comments. He doesn't care... But I do

OK, lets keep on topic and not insult everybody that plays Halo or on Xbox Live.

This kind of nonsense is everywhere, I help run a MUD (text based role playing game), and once in a blue moon we will get somebody that wants to try to do this. We are a lot more heavily moderated so those kind of people don't last long thankfully. It's been going on for as long as I can remember. Before the days of AOL in the 14.4k baud era, BBSs had those kind of people too. They always have, and unfortunately always will be part of the online community. They just feel more free to spread their hatred because nobody knows them and there's no repurcusions in "real life" for them.

The best thing to do is just report them when you can and ignore them when you can't.

This I would pay for. If they could do an over 21 section of PSN/XBL that cost a nominal amount of money but required a credit card and proof of your age I would sign up straight away.

Its what happens when people aren't held accountable for their actions. Things won't improve unless there is some form of accountability.

This is just like Max creating the new rules of listing the websites not to trust and punishing those who break those rules for the greater good of this forum.

It is a sad thing in online games these days. Having been a member of LIVE on the other system since the beta days I can say it has gotten alot worse! I think the main reason for this is just the increase in people on the service. The more people the greater the chance you will run into someone like this.

Also it really depends alot on the game, the more popular game the more hatred fills the lobbys and the game rooms.(due to more people and more of a chance running into the hatred) It can ruin the experience for alot of folks. I love to play both systems online and I do it just for fun, I consider myself a recreational gamer. I really dont care if I or my team wins or looses as long as we have a good time doing it.

One of the best things that M$ has done for the LIVE service is add that party system where 8 of your friends can be in a priviate chat and play which ever games you like and jump from game to game together. It is so much more enjoyable to play now because you dont have to listen to any radom haters in the lobbys and games unless you choose to. I rarely play online unless I have some friends on. If not Ill just load up some fallout or Bioshock and play offline untill I can get a good group together.

I know there are alot of people around here that dont really care for the other system and we are not supposed to talk about it. Which I totally understand being a blu ray system and a blu ray forum. But as far as the way they have there network and there services set up they really do alot of good things.

Minus the new avatars I could take or leave them.

Well thats just kinda my take on it. I have experienced and hated these things for a long time now.

On a side note I do need more peeps on my PSN. I really only play LBP and Socom right now on the PSN but Thinking of picking up Burnout this week

PSN ID: xxAiRSiKxx

yeah I agree my sht talking\confrontation ratio has gone way down since im like 90-10 in a group chat and no longer subject to having to sit in a lobby.

but ps3 at least when I played alot of cod4 was about 100000 times better then any other game i've played. I think thats becaues you don't get a mic with the system, you need a bluetooth one and you can't just spend $6-15 at bestbuy and plug it in and boom chit chat it up.

Thats what my girlfriend does. Its amazing how much harrasement women get on HOME. She still finds it fun occasionally, mostly because she has plenty of friend that go on HOME as well.

Have there ever been rumors about anything near this? I only play CoD 4 with friends and we usually mute everyone except the people who don't act like *****.

I think it's worse in the American HOME space than anything else, EU seems more civil and JP seems to be the best one, I think some moderation would go a long way as long as the moderation is not ridiculous like it was with LBP.

That might be the only time I would ever pay to play online, but they could just use the CC for verification purposes and not charge you

I have yet to have any issues with PS3 games online. Maybe Its becuase Inever use my mic or because I insta-mute anyone who annoys me at all, But honestly, thats not very often.

I dont play COD4 though.

COD4 was pretty bad until they patched the ability to mute a person.

All I can say is be careful what you wish for. I'd rather keep the report-as-you-find method than have some other authority take away services over a few bad apples.

Sure it sucks when people are bigots and for some reason or another can't understand/cope with humanity, but I always make sure to note their ID and report it after I'm done gaming. Take a few minutes out of your day to report the bigots and that will help sift them out.

I remember those days. I played it for a few months when it came out. I thought the game was massively over rated, and I think not being able to mute people might have influenced my feelings a bit haha.

I agree, and would add that having users report others should only be part of the process. Ive seen too many people get banned off the PSN for no good reason (none given actually) other than a vague phrase like "innaporpriate behaviour on home". It seems people are randomly reporting others.

From what I have heard of the moderators on Home is that when someone is reported a Moderator (invisible) will follow the user to document the behavior. Also that there are invisible Moderators randomly dispensed in Home monitoring people's behavior. Of course this is just word of mouth.

Also I haven't heard of someone being banned without some sort of cause.

Why would you make your sexuality public in a space dominated by teenage boys?

Maybe because they are proud of who they are and don't shy away from it?
