Currently, watching it right now. I'll have a review typed up on it soon.

Noticed when you select Japanese or English menu, if you select Japanese, you get four choices of audio. English has 3 choices of audio. The fourth not included if you select English is Japanese Dolby Digital 5.1ch.

Japanese and English audio is Dolby TrueHD but my player shows 2ch lossless, English is multi-ch, lossless.

Note: Disregard the audio situation of the Japanese. I was using my Magnavox BD player at the time and I realize which doesn't decode Dolby TrueHD so it defaulted on the 2ch track

I can't wait for this, I skipped owning the DVD but still have an old VHS copy (which is, unfortunately, in English dubs.. so really I have only seen half the film).

Oh, and if you want Japanese digital 5.1, you need to select the Japanese menu in the beginning and not the English.

he may be right but most not all employes at Future Shop are idiots. It astounds me how I know more about some of the stuff there talking about than they do! Are some of these people dumb, yes, knowing a lot about this stuff should be part of ther job. But most of the employees look like their fresh out of high school and are just looking for a job not a carreer.

I'm keeping that Akira tin as well just to keep. It's too cool to let go. I remember getting it during that K-Mart pricing glitch when it first came out and they accidentally had it for $17.99 or was it $12.99. Forgot... But overall its a keeper.

I feel the same way. Normally I hate non-standard packaging and want to get rid of any standard def discs when a blu version comes along. But not that Akira collector's tin!


Edit: I just went and checked if a standard size blu case would fit inside the old collectors tin. Unfortunately not, and its only a couple of mm too small.

The case does not mention anything in regards to region status. But I prefer to get the answer from the source, so I put an e-mail to the rep to find out.

I was also asked if similar to other Bandai Blu-ray releases if there is a booklet and yes, there is 32-page booklet inside. The booklet goes into taking "Akira" to Blu-ray and how it is offered at 192 khz/24-bit (the upper limit of the Blu-ray format) and other terms like Hypersonic" and other technical jargon that fans of the process will enjoy.

Also, there is an interview with Otomo included and a section on the effects used in the film.

For those who are hardcore technical fans of video and sound and transferring. You'll enjoy the booklet.

This brings up a good question...

What do you do if something comes out in BD when the last DVD release of that title was so bad-ass? Tin case, extra discs, etc. I mean, I believe this movie and every other movie will get re-released around 3-5 more times but can you really wait for it?

KNDY....... what audio equipment do you have??? Curious, as Jeff K. states the audio should be phenomenal, and I want to know your thoughts on that, in regards to what you're using to listen/view it with.

I first saw this with the english dub, but once I watched it in Japanese, I never went back that much. The more recent English dub was decent though.

Does it include the original english Dub as one of those 3 choices?
