I'm having the same problem as Naturephoto1 on my PDP-5020FD. I think the TV just doesn't like the USB key I'm using. I'll grab another one from work tomorrow and give it a shot.

The USB drive that doesn't work for me is a 2 GB OCZ Rally 2. What size and brand of USB drive are you using Nature?

Initially I used a OCZ flash drive which didn't work. Now it's working with a SanDisk Cruzer and seems to be working fine ATM. Have to wait and see if the update finishes.

I used a SanDisk also & it worked fine. Are the Blue & red lights flashing , with the orange on? that means its DL.

Yeah, all 3 lights were on and flashing. Now it's just the blue and red flashing with the orange off.

Only the red & blue should of been flashing, with the orange just on. When the orange light goes off & the red & blue are flashing still, the DL is over according to Pioneer. Thats the way it worked for me as well. Then you unplug & take out the flash drive. Then plug back in.

I was finally able to get the firmware to update. But, not as spelled out by the instructions provided by Pioneer. I found out that the firmware was loading after it had already started.

In any case, at least for me, with my IBM Compatible PC with Windows XP laptop for downloading and my PRO-111FD, I found that I had to install the memory stick into the TV when it was turned on. Installation would not start after pulling the AC power cord, inserting the memory stick, and then plugging in the AC power cord. I did not even realize that the firmware was being updated when I had turned off the TV. I had turned off the TV, then turned it on and inserted the memory stick. I noticed that the Blue and Red LEDs were alternating back and forth and the Orange LED was constantly lit. So, for those following the directions, understand that Pioneer means that the Blue and Red LEDs are alternating back and forth.

Didn't your TV turn back on automatically after you unplugged it while the TV was on according to the instructions (step 1-2)? Mine started back automatically after I replugged the TV and the update began shortly thereafter.

I have a 111FD and the firmware update worked like a charm. I have to admit that I was a little afraid that it may "brick" my monitor, but not the case.

I used a Samsung thumb drive.

The update did not change any of my video settings and total time including the new channel scan took maybe 15 minutes.

Overall I am pretty impressed.

I was able to apply the update on the first try using a SanDisk thumb drive. The one that didn't work is an OCZ Rally 2. I think the OCZ may have some special chipset in it to increase access time or something. That might be why it didn't work for the upgrade.

The update did fix the program display information for the OTA tuner. The update is worth it just for that.

I had originally ordered the thumbdrive for delivery from Pioneer. But it is backordered, so I simply downloaded the file & installed it on one of my thumbdrives. The Firmware update proceeded PERFECTLY & finished in less han 5 minutes. The newest version is now reflected in the tech info on the 111FD.

I just had quite the opposite happen. My SanDisk Cruzer wouldn't work but my OCZ Rally 2 did it without any problem.

Is this firmware only for US residence. I am from Canada, and was wondering if the firmware applies up here.

Also, I purchased my Kuro 5020FD early February so is this a "Date" issue. and my set is update?

Cause I have not noticed any of the above problems.

Any info greatly appreciated.

Sorry to dig up this thread but after trying the update with my USB drive and it not working, I ordered the official one from Pioneer which just got here earlier this week and I just finally got around to trying it today and I'm having the same trouble with the USB drive from Pioneer. I turn on the TV using the buttons on the side, pull the power cable from the back of the TV, insert the USB drive in the TV, plug the AC cable back in, and then it just sits there. The TV power comes back on but but the blue light just comes on and stays on. No red or orange, or flashing orange to give me an error. It's just like nothing happened. I triple checked the current firmware and it is lower than the firmware on the drive so that's not the problem. I didn't touch any buttons on the remote or TV so that's not it. I just can't figure it out.
