If you like El Topo, you should definitely check out Holy Mountain (also by Jodorowsky). You may also dig Altered States directed by Ken Russell (not on blu yet, unfortunately). On blu-ray right now, I think The Fall directed by Tarsem Singh has some of the strongest visual elements out there.

Getting back to the OP's question...I definetly reccomend "Across The Universe" and coming soon on Blu will be "The Complete Monterey Pop Festival" on Criterion. It's a concert film, from 1968, everyone's there, it's amazing...try not to cheer when Janis does her solo!
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0064689/ It's available now on SDVD Last edited by vanscottie; 02-07-2009 at 07:18 PM. |

I'm a hippie by default in that I live in Santa Cruz. For those in the Bay Area (and elsewhere) who know about Santa Cruz, you know what I mean!
At any rate, let us try not to take too much offense to what people post on this site; I sure don't, although it's easy to "get into it" if you're not careful. Peace, love, and happiness for all! Aside from the particular wording of the original question that apparently drew the ire of certain individuals, I think this is a worthy question for those of us looking for visually and aurally stimulating -- i.e. "trippy" -- Blu-rays. My only experience with such a Blu-ray includes Speed Racer, which isn't exactly trippy because of its nature; that's more of a kids movie. I bet A Clockwork Orange (already mentioned) is a trip. Something else that might kind of trippy -- when and if it's released -- is the Animusic series. I have the DVDs, and they look and sound pretty good on my TV even in that format. Of course, anything Pink Floyd remastered for Blu-ray would be pretty awesome. |

I'm on the East coast, and we'll put Harvard Square and Amherst MA hippies up against Berkeley any day of the week, and twice on Earth Day. ![]() (One of my writing teachers used to be in on the Harvard protests, and used to tell the story about how he was always the appointed clean-cut "designated driver", who was the one the police would always turn to for a rational explanation-- One time, his group was passing out "Bread, Not Bombs" leaflets in a supermarket; the manager asked what was going on, and after getting the explanation, sighed "I never shoulda left the suburbs...") ![]() |
