the 806 still out classes the other units in it's same price range...food for thought. Go to HometheaterMag.com and check out published specs vs real world performance. The yamaha 663 published 90w/pchannel and only produced something like 43 watts of clean power a channel. The 806 published 130wpc while it only produces something like 76wpc. The 805 claims 130wpc and in 5.1 produces 150 something wpc and in 7.1 120wpc of clean power.

If you want the 805, but can no longer find it, you may want to consider stepping up the 876. The 876 retains the same power suppy, DACs and 3 DSP design of the 805, 875 and 905 that were dropped/cost cut on the 806.

Just food for thought.

I couldn't agree more. ...And that's what I did last week.

The 876 adds quite a few other features, like VLSC, HD Radio tuner, ISF Mode, & HQV Reon chip. I'm after the BTL feature(bridging). Imagine those 805 numbers bridged.

the 876 is a pretty penny though
i seen the 806 on amazon for $617

the 876 is like $1000 on amazon

the 806 seems like a solid upgrade from the 706 so i should be good

any speaker recommendations?
im using my onkyo HTiB speakers(7.1) but i know new speakers will make a huge difference.

i wanna get polk or klipsch.
i have about 600-700 to spend and dont mind using 5.1 for now.
do i REALLY need a sub when my HTiB has a 290 watt powered sub?
no $$$ on sub = better speakers!

someone please recommend something to me. im lost when it comes to speakers.

I know a lot of people here are going to recommend the Elemental Designs sub to you and that's cool. I've never heard or listened to it in person. Anyways, I own the Boston Acoustics HPS-12HO (300 Watt RMS [460 Watt Max]). I got it through OneCall on Amazon.com for $227 - $50 (Amazon.com card) so I got it for $177 shipped. I think it's a great subwoofer for the price.

You can check my pics if you want pics of the sub. Here's a link to both the black and white ones. You can get the white one for $250 shipped right now from OneCall through Amazon.com. Don't get it from Amazon since they still have it for $500.

And by the way, I don't think your HTiB was 290 Watts RMS... I'm guessing that's max unless you have a monster of a HTiB sub...

I'm in the same boat as you, Don. I have a Sony HTSS2300 and I am going to upgrade my sub last.

Not exactly sure on price for the whole system, but I would go with the Paradigm Atom & CC190 center. Use your HTIB surrounds & sub for now, if necessary. Once you hear how good these are, you'll find a way to get the matching ADP-190 surrounds.
