I will celebrate when I see them on store shelves, though my personal preference will still be for the higher quality brands like Sony, Panasonic etc.

Even though I will not be buying any cheap players from Wally World if they make them....there is a difference here because all current hd dvd plauers already have built in non software related freezes ect ect.....so it makes sense that an even cheaper version would likely be even worse.

In contrast to that....I have tried 3 BD players and a PS3 and had zero non software related problems that both hd dvd players had.

Calling a spade a spade in regards to the functionality of all current hd dvd players regardless of cost...is something that far too many either outright lie about...or sweep under the rug.

And now the Funai Blu Ray players are coming officially. Although not many people here will buy one, at least it gives other consumers that added incentive to jump in.

And it completely kills the "attach rate"/ cheaper hardware FUD talking point of HD-DVD/MS folks.

Are you kidding? I'd buy one to throw in my bedroom or to give to my mom or something.

I will be interested in seeing how good of quality these players are. it is great that they are going to be cheaper but please don't cheapen the BD standard, then we coud be stooting ourselves in the foot.

Same concern here... HD DVD has been the 'cheap' alternative to quality source of HD due to Toshiba slashing prices like there's no tomorrow, but I have to say their player at $299 is well worth it for the price. Not only it will upscale images, HDMI output, and it comes with 5 free HD DVD. I just cant see that happening with this cheap player...

FYI, not a HD DVD fanboy. In fact, I dont even own any HD DVD or 360, but Im trying to be fair and voice my opinion

These cheap players may be built based on Sigma Designs' reference design board. So the basic quality will be there. The rest such as high quality power supply, high quality DACS and other bells and whistles are dependent on the price tier the manufacturer have set these players to be. The cheaper the price, the cheaper the other components.
