I was sure to find people only voting for his American output, and I'm glad that's not completely the case. I have to say that his Dutch output is superior to the English output. Criterion should release those on Blu-ray
![]() Too bad he left Holland because he couldn't make the movies he wanted to, only to be stuck in the sci-fi genre in Hollywood. Anyway, I really couldn't choose, but ended up voting for Soldier of Orange. |

I had obviously a top 3 with Paul. Robocop, Total Recall, Starship Troopers. I selected Total Recall, That in a visual sense is a was just delicious for me when I was growing up. Starship Troopers gave me the best cinematic experience (one of my favourite experiences with sound). And Robocop is an absolute classic. But I happily settled on TR.

My heart says Robocop, whilst my head says Black Book. Tough choice but Black Book won out. Total Recall and Soldier of Orange were also in the mix.
I think it's fair to say Verhoeven has made some excellent English language films, however on reflection it's his Dutch output that is the most powerful. |

The man's a genius.
I'd go for Robocop as the best. I love Total Recall as well... it's the only film I can think of where when I start to watch it, I can never quite remember the twists and turns, so it's always fresh. Think I'll have to get a few of his non Hollywood/obscure films on my Lovefilm list. |
