One thing that doesn't make a lot of sense to me is:

If Toast uses the frame rate of the QT movie it is given to create a BD then it will create a 25p BD of my 25p QT. But I didn't think 25p was supported in Blu-ray. I'm confused! I also spent more than a whole day exporting my QT as 24p (in QT Pro) and then opened it and saw that it said 25 fps in the Inspector. Huh! More confusion.

Tricky business this Blu-ray.

Sounds like it might be time to switch to an OS that supports Blu-Ray. You know? Like the OS that all Mac lovers knock for not being able to do what a Mac can do. I'd like to see these two guys talk for 30 seconds about authoring a Blu-Ray.

Mac: "Hi, I'm a mac."
PC: "And I'm a PC. Mac, guess what I did today?"
Mac: "What's that, PC?"
PC: "I made a movie and burned it onto a disc for others to see."
Mac: "Oh, Well, I'm better than you because I've been burning DVDs for years."
PC: "Actually, the movie was in high definition and burned onto a Blu-Ray."
Mac: "Oh."
PC: "Don't feel bad Mac. At least you can play it back. Here's a copy."
Mac looks at disc and hands it back to PC.
Mac: "I bet it's a good movie."
Cue stupid music.

Hilarious!

I do think Apple aught to suffer for that line of commercials. They made quite a few bogus and arrogant claims such as macs never crash and can't get viruses.

I read an interesting research report about how there are indeed relatively fewer viruses written for macs, but the ones that do exist run rampant because Apple has their user base believing they can't be infected and don't need any protections.

The idea that macs are somehow invulnerable to virus infection is a marketing illusion. The report indicated that this state of affairs makes a devastating worm suddenly sweeping through the vulnerable mac population sometime in the near future a likely possibility.

That would certainly be a humbling experience for Apple.

There are good things about Apple's products. And I've never understood why Apple didn't advertise about those things rather than pursuing hostile advertising campaigns where they do nothing but slam their competitors with dubious claims of superiority in areas where they often actually aren't.

Because slamming your competitor makes you more money than selling features.

Thanks for everyone's help on this. I finally bought a Blu-ray player (Sony S350) so now I can see my Blu-rays as well as write them! I had written two test BDs on my La Cie writer using Toast and both play absolutely fine on the Sony machine. One of the discs had been encoded from my original uncompressed HD QT file at 25p and the other was encoded from a 24p version of that file that I created in QT Pro (however I don't think it actually did create a 24p file since in Movie Inspector it actually says 25p - strange since I checked the export settings). Both discs play the same.

Anyway, to get to my point, my 25p encodes play absolutely fine but I thought 25p was not supported in Blu-ray!!! Has Toast changed the playback speed in the encode (it doesn't look or sound like it) or is this frame rate now supported? I am confused. Does this mean that I can now do a batch of BDs from my 25p file and be confident that they will work on other Blu-ray players around the world?

Any clarity greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

... or is this just a UK compatibility issue?

I have since discovered that 25p is supported on Blu-ray but probably won't play on a US or Japanese player. Has that been the experience of users?

Thanks
