Hence, I thought that the HD-DVD at the time or these newer Blu-Ray were going to be re-edit from film which had possibility of wider frames.

I am not saying that I wanted them to do what they did with Seinfeld, which I agree, is a waste.

I guess that they were filmed with regular TV cameras then like the ones used on older shows like Seinfeld and most 4:3 footage.
Oh, sorry. Yeah, I didn't mean to be a pain. I (mistakenly it looks like) thought you were one of those people who think everything sshould be widescreen, no matter what. My bad.

I'll never understand why The Motion Picture has so bad reputation, it's my favourite of all the Star Trek films. One just have to see it as a visual film on the same way we all see 2001 A Space Odyssey.
The plot on The Motion picture is secondary as I see it, the key of the film is the new Enterprise, getting the old crew together and give the audience some outstanding visuals Star Trek never had before.
I just fear The Motion Picture is not going to look fine taking the old DVD as a reference. Picture is inconsistent, some scenes look too fuzzy and lack detail and there is planty of grain on some others that can even be noticed on DVD.

Have to agree with ya there, I also really enjoy the first one for much the same reasons. Beautiful visuals, a fantastic score, and it always brings a smile to my face watching the gradual re-assembling of the old crew. And yes, I LOVED the fly-by of the Enterprise, you just don't see gorgeous model work like that any more. Loved the whole mystery of exactly WHAT V'Ger is as well. If anything, I consider it to be almost more true to the original series than most of the sequels, as it truly is a story of trying to uncover an alien mystery and explore the unknown. Oh well, in this day and age of slam-bang action, machine gun editing and minimal plot, I guess a movie that runs at a leisurely pace like that just isn't to everyone's taste.

Looking forward to the Blu, really hope all that gorgeous film grain is left in tact!

I'll be actually seeing Star Trek for the first time. When i was a kid my father never missed a ST The Next Generation episode and it always pissed me off, But i've never seen a whole episode Star Trek episode of any of the series except Deep Space nine.

But now that i'm older i'm wanting to see what all the fuss is about, So i've preordered the blu-ray season 1 set and so far I have the 6 movie set on preorder but I may cancel that considering all the negative about it..
I honestly don't believe I'm going to ever be thinking of myself as a Trekkie.. But I assume the Directors cuts are the versions to see.
