It's going to cost that much to fix it?

I would try it out. It's such a nice AVR. A lot of power under the hood.

That's just for the part. $100. It's easy to put in. I can do that myself. Just 4 screws ans 4 connectors? Like I said...I hope that's all it is.

Indeed, it would be interesting to see if the new power supply works. I only wonder that if the power supply was the problem, that none of the other circuitry and components were affected. Let's hope!

Please, keep us apprised, mnfish!

I got it and it worked!!!! Now I have sound!! An 805 for $125!! OK...??s...I see the speaker set up in the system can go 4 or 6 ohm. My speakers are Def Techs...7004s in the front...BP2.1 for the surrs, Pro Mon 1000 surr backs and CLR 2300 for center. Those are all 8ohm. Should I change it to 6ohm or leave it at 4? The guy I got it from had a blown speaker so I'm wondering if he had the amp set at the wrong ohms? Also...I was playing a BD thru my BDPs300 and I have it set to auto audio thru the HDMI and not PCM. My ? is the movie I'm watching says it will play in Dolby TrueHD 5.1 but it doesn't show up as TrueHD?? Is there an auto setting on the rcvr and or do I need to set it up differently on the Sony 300??

Not sure what the option would be on the BDPS300 but on the 350 you have to change the audio output from Mix to Direct, that makes the player Bitstream the audio codecs and you should see DolbyTrue HD show up on your receivers display.

EDIT:
Onkyo TXSR805 Manual:

I highly recommend you download the manual:

Whoa!!! Nooooo!!!!!!!

6ohms on his 8ohm DefTech speakers buddy!...don't believe, know which ohms should be paired with which! Don't be trying to guess at information if your not almost a 100% sure, because you don't want some dude frying his newly fixed 805 or frying a speaker on your conscience.

I said "i think"*. I then (not even 14secs later) posted an edit, highlighted the quote from the manual in red and bold letters showing the correct answer. If that's still enough to confuse the OP :I've edited it out already. I posted the manual, that should be sufficient enough for him to find the right answer.

You have to set your audio to PCM, and then it will only show up as Multichannel PCM. The S300 can only pass TrueHD PCM not bitstream.

I understand. I didn't post a smiley because it might of come across as being sarcastic. I appreciate you coming to the rescue in the likely event of an incorrect misinformed post thought, that's why i like this place. Lots of knowledgeable people chime in and help people find the right answers.

I've been 100% disappointed with my 805 over the past few weeks. Random black screen flashes are full of failure. I'll be looking for a replacement once our finances settle down from our move to Alaska.

Just wanted to chime in and congratulate you on the steal of the century. While I'm cool with swapping out PC parts, I probably wouldn't have bought that PSU and swapped it out. Glad you did- $125 for an 805 is awesome. I paid about $550 for my used one shipped and felt I got a great deal.

Still working so far?! Cross my fingers.

So: BDP at PCM and let the Onkyo run Multichannel...or get a new 350 or
550 model..

Rcvr set to 6 OHM on all the speakers?? Is that correct?

I had to take the feet off of it to put it on the shelf. I replaced my Denon 2307 with this one because the Onkyo does 1.3 HDMI (reads DTS Master and TrueHD) and the Denon doesn't. I have a 7.1 set up and would like to hear 7.1 on the BDs that I have that have 7.1. It also sticks out farther than the Denon but it's a temporary place until I get into my house this fall and set up the Projector. I'll have it in a separate room and cooling fans.

Yeah, it's a beast. Mine sticks out slightly from the shelf as well. I kept the feet on though.

Anyway, yes keep the speakers set to 6 ohm. This is basically 6-8ohm setting.
