He is actually right. Some plastic speakers do sound better.

Scaena Iso Linear Speakers. They are American made, but the drivers are made in Denmark and China. The list price is $44,000.

Studio Electric T2 speakers. They are listed for $16,500 a pair.

I was glad to see BigDaddy show that some plastic speakers have merit. I read through some of the B&W Nautilus brochure and saw that they are made from resin, another name for plastic. Furthermore many manufacturers use MDF for their cabinets which is closer to being plastic than wood like. The YouTube video was funny and not informative but the plastic issue was not even his point the way I saw it. You are mostly correct in thinking those little plastic speakers are not going to measure up to a well built wood cabinet, but there certainly are exceptions.

Thanks for the clarification big daddy. But when I made my claim, I was thinking about the general population he was trying to reach out too. And the fact that it looked like a speaker off some boom box was just an outrage more so.

I was being sarcastic. The guy in the video had pretty basic low level speakers. The vast majority of the speakers and subwoofers from low end to ultra high end are made of MDF wood. There are a few exceptions, but they cost more than our cars.

This person actually made a subwoofer out of concrete type material:

I suppose some people have too much money and want to be different. It is for the same reason that some people buy cars that cost $200,000 to $1,000,000. You should see more exotic speakers in this thread:

sadly, this confirms that most people get their free education off the internet and take it as is, instead of reading and researching further. the world of drive thru, quick and easy, draw me a picture (or in this case, make a doo-hicky video) for the viewing public.

all in all, i do appreciate his gesture and attempt to 'clarify' the masses with his simple video. he tried to. i can give him that.
