Easy choice, go with the Subaru
The beauty of AWD

Those things are a ton of fun on road and off road, they are really hard to get stuck in the mud (I tried really hard with my Outback and couldn't get it stuck ). I'm actually selling my bimmer to switch back to owning a scooby. I miss getting mud all over my car and letting nature take care of her, haha. Just I'm looking at a WRX or STi, but leaning more toward the WRX so I can put rally tires on it. They don't make rally tires for the STi, stupid.

The Rav4 is looking a little long in the tooth and is about as much fun to drive as a 80's Buick. Toyota should include a lifetime supply of No-Doze with each purchase. The Subaru is a bit nicer and would be my choice between the two.

However, if you want something that will beat the snot out of those two choices, check this out.

I have 3 VWs (Toureg, Fahrenheit GTI and new Passat CC) and all 3 are solid as the day I bought them. No issues, no repairs, no squeeks, rattles, buzzes, and definitely 100% sure that No Doze is not needed. Trust me. Until you drive one, you won't understand how over-rated Japanese cars are.

Yup like i said a boring hunk of trash best describes every single model that Toyota makes, the ridiculous part is everyone trying to peddle them as problem free which could not be further from the truth these days!

Ok, you don't like Toyota, we get it. No car is perfect, and if you drive a car long enough you're going to have problems. I have had great luck with Toyota, drove my 98 Camry to 80,000 miles with no problems ever. Drove my 99 4-Runner to 140,000 miles and the only thing I ever had to fix was a water pump. Now I have an 04 4-Runner at 54,000 and haven't had any problems. I'm not saying Toyota is perfect, but it earned it's great reputation, and that's why it is among the companies with the best resale value.

Personally I would restore a 70's Land Cruiser. But that's just me.

$8k in Arkansas. I bet you could find one near you.

I have had five Subarus from 1988-present. All have been great cars - no problems. Traded them in with 93K - 165K miles on each. Currently driving a Tribeca with 103K miles, good for another two years, at least.

I never had a Forrester myself, but people I know who have them do like them.

I advise you TB to actually surf the forums for each make and you will find there technical problem forum section just as post filled and in most cases worse then any of the American makes! They are living off past reputation, they are no better then gm or ford and are now selling their cars just like them adding huge rebates basically killing that resale value they always bragged about!

If it was me i would go with a Subaru, but as you can tell the Toyota blinders are not pulled over my eyes and pretty much think everything they make is a boring hunk of trash!

This guy MUST be high. Toyota living off past reputation, get real, BOTH my Toyota's will last FAR longer than ANYTHING you will EVER drive. Toyota's will last FOREVER, however YOU MUST DO YOUR SERVICES. To many people think they can buy a Toyota and just drive for ever without changing there oil. I personally have seen 30k miles before there first oil change, thats just dumb.

My first ones lasted till around 130,000 km ,but that was a lot of stopping and starting and shifting.(I had standards then the one I have now is an automatic) The new ones are totally redesigned. They are bigger, larger wheel base 17in compared to 16in,traction control.
Anybody I know who has had says the same thing "you can not kill the thing." My first one had 350,000 on it ,I got rid of that because the rings were going, the second one had 325,000 on it.A friend of mine got over 500,000 on his.

Please right on nothing is more like it! I could keep digging these up one after another with just about every model they make! And before the token american car hating moron decides to drop in and donate his 2 cents, my arguement is not about the american makes being better it's about idiot comments trying to lie about toyota being perfect!

Poor guy 8,000 miles and already knows he has a worthless piece of rubbish http://www.tundratalk.net/forums/tun...ealership.html

Heres a quality tundra thats 14 months old and already rusting away http://www.tundratalk.net/forums/tun...more-rust.html

Heres your rav 4 which seem to blow the oil out of a engine line that was made cheaply and now all the people will have to wait as the part to fix it is backordered since those so called all american parts that seem to always come from japan are tough to get! http://rav4world.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=20014

Heres another rav 4 that blew it's differential http://rav4world.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=10582 and even more owners chime in with problems they have also had so please spare me the longest lasting load of crap because im not buying it!

You could research any brand and find lemons. It happens with any mass-produced product. Subaru is a good brand. Toyota is a good brand. Go with whichever one you like best.

You really could pull this kind of stuff up with any make any model. the guy with 8K miles forgot to mention that he replaced his factory stuff with aftermarket parts and it has been wrecked TWICE.

Sorry but Toyota is FAR better than GM, FORD, and Chrysler. Other makes may be able to come close though.

THEY BOTH ARE GOOD BRANDS BUT TOYOTA IS NOW RENTING OUT THERE VEHICLES AND THEY ARE NOT HOLDING THE VALUE THEY DID IN THE PAST. JUST A THOUGHT.
