Its on the HD DVD website. http://www.thelookandsoundofperfect....FRdYTAodRAZh4Q

In the middle of the tech specs chart. On the line where it says "Recording time" Over 8 hours.

Its very confusing, when at the top of that spec sheet, they write, disc resolution 1080p, and then recording time, over 8 hours.

I just bought a Blu-ray burner and I still have to learn a lot of things about which video card to get and how to install and use it, but this question has been on my mind for a while and I saw this thread while I was looking for info to install my burner.

So, my statement is not non sense. Someone else in this thread, (theknub) said its because of the compression used and in addition, it was not a statement, it was a question.
In your question you're saying that HD-DVD can store 8 hours of video and Blu-ray can store 2 or 4 hours of video. That is a statement within your question and it's false. Where did you pull the false information about Blu-ray video storage time from?

To Shin-ra:
First you said, my statement was false about the HD-DVD, then I gave you a link to where it says that. . .I didnt create it. It's on the website. Read my previous post.

As far as the recording time of Blu-ray's, thats just about everywhere. .

Here's one place. . http://sony.storagesupport.com/BDupgrade/index.htm
(Its the first sentence.)

Do you want me to find another link which states the recording time for a 25GB disc? or do you have a reason why the HD-DVD website says 8 hours and Blu-Ray says less? Now that's a question. Thats a statement.

This is false because a Blu-ray producing studio could use very highly compressed video, or 720p video and store much more video length than a high quality production like the two recent Pirates of the Caribbean movies. Video length depends on a great number of variables, there is no maximum spec anywhere near the 2 or 4 hours mark (it's probably 999 hours or something). The same is probably true of HD-DVD, the 8 hours they claim is just an estimate with a certain quality of video (probably so low no-one would be happy with it) plus other variables - low quality sound, no interactive features to maximise space for that virtual 8 hours.

Your question was worded like you already knew HD-DVD had this spec and Blu-ray had that spec, but they don't, so the question about those specs makes no sense.

The two important specs are Blu-ray's higher capacity and higher bandwidth for carrying very high-bitrate video and audio.

There are Blu-ray movies in only 720p? I thought all the Blu-ray movies were in 1080i atleast.

As far as the video length, depending on many variables, what are they? I would like to know, so when I record from TV, eventually when I learn how to, I can really maximize the 25GB Blu-ray discs(The 50GB discs are too expensive for me.)

When you say "Blu-ray's higher capacity and higher bandwidth", can you expand on that?

By capacity, do you mean the 25GB's on a Blu-ray disc? What do you mean by bandwidth?

Is it just me or has anyone noticed how HD-DVD discs are usually $5-$10 more than a Blu-Ray disc? I wonder if people think that paying more for an HD-DVD disc means better quality. Haha, Blu-Ray is cheaper and is better quality. Another plus for Blu-Ray. I just hope Warner can work out all the kinks on the HD-DVD version of The Matrix before it hits Blu-Ray.
