Default Optoma U3

I'd like to say thanks to everyone for the PJ info. Bought 1st projector.

Was looking at 720p Epson MovieMate 72, which has built in speakers and DVD player, basically for work and to use at home when not needed. But because I fear that someone will drop it, put drinks all around it, etc., I had to change my mind and get a cheaper more expendable PJ. Optoma U3, Optoma DV11 in states.

Got it home and hung up a white bed sheet (screen will be delivered next week) and I was ready to go, "Blah, that is no good." Surprised the Optoma is not bad, I'm running component cables from my DVD, have to buy one for the PS3. Bed sheet and no Blu-ray the experience is still cool, more importantly wife likes it.

I think this has helped me a lot in my case with my wife that a PJ is needed. On native, it has the LOTR with bars on top, bottom, right and left. 4:3 scales it and it is still ok.

I will wait a bit longer to buy a 1080p, won't bother with 720p since I have this Optoma. U3's screen will be keeped at work, so I can probably buy a nice screen for home and not get any looks from my wife, a small amount of cash in comparison to me going out and buying the 1080p Optoma I want. Get a great screen now while I wait to sneak a 1080p PJ past the wife. Actually she'll probably get one for me for x-mas.

Thanks again for the info that steared me towards 720p and 1080p, even though I didn't buy one, I'm one step closer.

Hence it should leave me happy for a year or two (untill I get a real job, instead of just bieng a student and working nights and at any old place that gives me as little responisbility as possible [which is currently what I want]). As for brightness, I usually only use a 106" to 110" screen with a 150w bulb and get reasonable brightness (around 350 lumens from memory though I have been reading about auditing regulations for the past few hours so I may be wrong as numbers are everywhere in my head at the moment). Anyway, the main reason for my upgrade in any case is my DIY is simply to big for where i'm moving [though the wall will accomadate the screen ].

Sorry for running of topic, but if I talk about front projection to most friends, there eyes glaze over and then they ask the inevetable, "what is front projection"?
That's fine, I like taking about these topics, 350 Lumens is fine with your screen size. I do feel sad everyone thinks the only way to go big is with a flat screen, but you could go much larger with a projector. I think alot of people don't think what we think.
