They're trying to save on plastic, but this appear to be an overkill.

thats the idea behind it, I think it will cause un necessary damage to cases in shipping as the cases arent sturdy enough. Looks like they are all going that way, Sony is launching the same case starting with Mall Cop

So far its just Fox/MGM. None of my blus have this kind of case yet, but I did buy the Dead Like Me: Life After Death DVD & the case had the exact same patterns.

If you don't like the case, contact Fox customer service and tell them that while you appreciate their efforts to go green, you really really dislike the case and the cost of replacing it would factor into future purchases

I got a completely normal case. Mine was purchased at Walmart Canada.
It is this type of ice age thinking that has put our environment in the shape that it is in. Believe it or not, this is actually a great thing, and a big step for the blu-ray industry. Do not be surprised if you see all blu-rays that are manufactured placed in these type of cases within the next 1-2 years. They are cheaper, use less material, and help the environment. Win, win. Why do you need such a thick and durable case anyway? Do you wrestle people with a blu-ray in your back pocket? Blu-rays just sit on a shelf and if you have a big collection, occasionally are opened. I don't think the case will break if you open it. But if your child gets ahold of it, then maybe. And that would be your own fault.

Blu-ray cases are inherently eco friendly compared to DVD... The cases are slim, and the lack of support will lead to a lot of damged discs. Any little bump on the case and the cover art gets damaged...nothing between it and the disc. So, the studios are been eco friendly? But, thay are quick to include pounds of cardboard in the Gone with the Wind type "collector's" editions...to milk us for every $1. I REALLY want to write what I feel, but.

I agree, blu-ray cases are better than dvd cases, but I really disagree about the damage part, that is silly. I have the QoS recycled blu-ray case, but I know I am not going to break it. And I highly doubt that anyone will. Worst case scenario, a plane crashes into your house, but trust me, even a normal, thicker, blu-ray case would not survive, so who cares. I think that people just like to cry and complain about something. I guess the world is full of skeptics, which is not a bad thing, but a little overdone.

In response to your new post, I could see the cover art getting damaged, but why point out a flaw (gone with the wind), when there is a brighter point (QoS), that is if you consider being environmentally friendly bright. I think that amount of blu-rays made this way will grow, and over time, they will get away from wasteful packaging. Do I think they could make recycled packaging better, yes. And they will. Not all first runs are perfect.

These types of cases will most likely result in me going out and ordering a supply of "normal' cases, which will totally defeat the 'green' purpose of these. They should at least make it optional for folks.

what are you guys doing to your movies that the case needs to be made out of inch thick plastic?

If you're local post office is delivering these damage, you need to report it. These cases provide more than enough support for a BR or a DVD, for that matter.

You have good intentions, and I admire that. However, people that buy movies actually plan on keeping them, and don't usually end in the trash. Do you have any idea how much plastic and cardboard waste is caused by people buying soda and junk food in movie theaters? I don't, but It should be , and I don't see the studios very concerned about that. How bout they (studios) start by utilizing "green" or eco friendly manufacturing facilitites? Trust me...this is a little marketing gimmick that they had in mind for months. They care about $$$$$.
