Yeah, I got the Fathom, and felt like an idiot trying to pick it up...

As far as the Trinity and JL Fathom subs are concerned, I believe they are worth every penny, but they just don't make sense for your average living room IMO. You have to at least have A) a dedicated HT in the basement with ample square footage or B) have a huge living room like in a loft to really get the most out of it.Try using an SPL meter to calibrate it and you'll find that the gain knob will be really dialed low, otherwise all you'll hear is bass. Both subs bottom out really well with HT. They'll give you that raw and visceral feel but are not really that musical to be quite honest. I'd rather get a REL B1 for the same $$$ and its a lot easier to integrate into 2 channel listening and is great smaller rooms.

The Fathom is fine in a living room - that's where I have mine, in a 22'x24' space. Very high ceiling. Depends on what you think the size of a living room is.
