@ Sarge

How old are you? I think certain age groups view Rambo a little different than others. I am going to assume you are 18-24 if you are just now watching Rambo. If you read the Rambo review on the page you should have picked up on some personal nostalgia of the reviewer so I do not think it was 100% a critical analysis review.

Also, the colors might not be super vibrant but that is also because there is not a lot of color saturation and fake after effects processing the picture. Take Lord of the Rings for example since it is your avatar.. the forest in LotR is very vibrant because it was post processed to be more vibrant looking and some of it is often CGI. Some people would consider the neutral, more natural jungle in Rambo more appealing than a highly processed, glammy, yet un natural look at LotR often has. Just pointing about some older movies are less colorful but in fact are more natural looking.

I think as far as action movies go, Rambo is up there with the best of them. This was an exciting movie to watch. Surprisingly, my wife found it entertaining and she hates parts 2 & 3.

That's a great point regarding the PQ. My blu ray experience is limited; am a newbie in that regard, and am still learning about the technology. I had a chance to watch TDK in DVD and then in Blu Ray a few days later. The difference in sharpness and detail that came out in the picture was fantastic. Then again, maybe TDK falls into the LOTR category regarding CGI. I simply didn't see the same 'pop' in the detail with Rambo. Maybe a fair comparison would have been to compare it with the DVD version.

Don't really understand your assumption... that being from that generation and relating to the iconic character that I would have rushed to seen it, I guess.

I am 40, and have grown up (well, lets say "gotten older") with Sly and his films. First Blood was a fantastic movie; the two sequels degenerated somewhat into kill-fests. While it wouldn't be Rambo without that element, I was hoping (again, the perfect score helped to fuel this) for a little more for the return of this franchise.

Indeed, First Blood could have spawned an amazing franchise. The movies just keep making the deaths bloodier, a bit more realistic, and increase Sly's kill count. I attempted to sit down to watch all four in a row with some friends and it was just painful. One can only take so many badly acted deaths from the first three(three being my most hated). It'd be nice to se Rambo actually go through a "struggle" like in the first one. Now he just kills and always survives.

You're entitled to your opinion but I strongly disagree, I find all 4 movies to be quite entertaining, and that's what a movie should do!!
For the latest Rambo, it was my favorite movie of 2008 by far. I've seen all the blockbusters that year and Rambo is still my favorite.

As far as the film itself goes, IT IS A GREAT MOVIE. It's a classic. How does someone not like Rambo? I could understand someone not loving it but not even being entertained by John Rambo?

Not my personal fav. but definitely can't argue. I should have let it be known I do enjoy First Blood and Rambo IV a GREAT deal. Just as a fan wish the whole series would have taken a SLIGHTLY different approach to some things. Check out Rambo V which is in the works. I'm pretty sure it's being directed by ole Sly just like this last one.

I wasn't going to ever bother with 300 because of the heavy grain issue, but got that recently also as a few user reviews said the grain wasn't THAT big of a deal, and it wasn't, I thought 300 looked fantastic and very similar to what I saw in the theatre.
I hope you do realize that the grain in 300 was all added intentionally.

The perfect 5 five from the reviewer was heavily influenced by the nostalgia and love for the character.. The reviewer says so himself! And even though I didnt grow up with the movies, I agree! First Blood is by far my favorite, and I actually think 4 brought a fine ending to the franchise... Liked it better than 2 and 3!
