I think you missed his point. How can you ruin something that is already finished? The original will always be the original and that's it. The original Halloween is still there for you to watch and enjoy. It's not as if Rob Zombie remade it and destroyed all the copies of John Carpenter's original.

If you don't like the remake, nobody forces you to watch it or purchase it.

I went into the remake wanting to like it, but I left very disappointed. As others have said, I don't like him spoonfeeding us this white trash upbringing to justify why he became a murderer. I much prefer the open in the original because it gives you just enough info to let you piece together for yourself why(if there truly is a reason) Michael becomes a homicidal maniac. I also preferred that Michael didn't look like a WWE wrestler in the original as well. It seemed to me that he took all the charm and thought out of the original. I will never watch it again, but to each his own.

My opinion on the remake is:

If you watch it, pretending the 1978 movie didn't exist, then it's not bad. Not great, mind you, but certainly watchable and entertaining (although not scary, Zombie's decision to give Michael a back story takes that away from the character, just like the sequels of the original did). However, it certainly fails in comparison to Carpenter's original.

That's funny, I don't recall Laurie Strode ever fingering a bagel in the original movie.

My thoughts exactly. I tried to take the original out of the equation when watching RZH and was actually pretty entertained by it. It would have been a lot better, and creepier, if he would have taken out the redneck angle and made the family a normal suburban family.

I thought the movie was quite awful.

It's not the worst remake out there, but it's nowhere near good.

Michael Firefly didn't even make much sense. It was like Zombie tried way too hard to humanize him in the first hour of the film only to try to attempt to make him into the silent machine he's known to be in the original. Then he takes off his mask and gives Laurie an old photo.. and what is he trying to accomplish here? Did he just go on a murder spree to give her a photo? And why did he take off the mask? Last we knew he flat-out refused to be without one on.

I thought Rob Zombie's version was slightly better than the original. If the original Halloween had never existed and had come out within the last ten years, I am not so sure it would be hailed as the classic it became. A very influential movie, but on a pure entertainment level has a few dated aspects.

I happened to love the remake. A guilty pleasure of mine. After all I sat there and watched all 4 1/2 hours of the bonus features. I dont even view this film as a remake though. I kind of take it as an extension to the original story.

I enjoyed both the original and Rob Zombies version of the movie. I find it easy to distinguish between the two and plan on purchasing both in the future.

I kind of liked Zombie's version of the movie the first time I saw it, but not as much the second. I liked the first act that focused on Michael more as a kid, but then when they actually get to Halloween night (when he comes back) it's like he had to try to cram the entire first movie into 30 minutes, so that part just felt rushed.
But I never feel like a bad remake "ruins" the original movie for me. If I don't like it, I won't watch it. Simple.

I love all of Rob Zombie's movies-House of 1000 Corpses, The Devil's Rejects, Rob Zombie's Halloween. Here let me type that again ROB ZOMBIE'S HALLOWEEN.....not John Carpenter's Halloween by Rob Zombie. As I've grown older I've learned to appriciate movies even if they have the same name not original and remake.

I really liked the second half of the movie but the first half was terrible. Not sure about this second one coming out and the fact that they are recasting for Daeg's part as young michael because Daeg is now to tall. This second one might just kill his cred.

I'm not going to get deep into what was good/bad I really enjoyed the movie.. and I'm a huge fan of the original Halloween series.

I don't think I've seen a Rob Zombie film I don't like!

I liked it... I have liked all of Rob Zombie's movies to date....

I also loved the original... Does Zombie's remake take anything away from the classic, no its still the classic it was. The remake would have been boring if it was an exact rehash of the original. I really don't care if its vulgar either, its an adult movie not a kids movie.

People complain of all the remakes when really they havent been that bad, the only ones that comes to mind as being terrible is the new Psycho, Hills Have Eyes 2 and The Omen.... Great remakes have been: The Hills Have Eyes, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Halloween, Friday The 13th, Last House on the Left, Dawn of the Dead, The Amityville Horror, My Bloody Valentine 3D, Thirteen Ghosts. And older remakes like The Thing or The Fly.

Bring on THE CRAZIES!!!!!

Slightly off topic but there are a couple of dvd/BR releases of this (Rob Zombie version) movie. What are the differences? I've checked dvd comparison sites but they only list the special features and not the changes in the actual feature itself.
