According to Chad from AVS, who is a travelling ISF technician/calibrator, the G10 had three times the ANSI contrast of the -800U thanks to its deeper blacks and greater light output. I can't find the exact measurement, but overall output is substantially greater than last year's 8xx series models.

That's something Panasonic worked quite hard to do, because they know how sets look in stores and they wanted to work against the "flies to a bug zapper" effect that LCD's have.

For movies and TV use only absolutely. Panasonic if there's gaming involved.

Then there's HD Guru's review also - http://hdguru.com/panasonic-premiere...st-review/276/

Plus the V10 isn't just the same as the VX100 because we already know that the newest Viera's have acheived 1080/1080 motion resolution, whereas the VX100 did not.
Wow! So the V10 is improved over the Premiere. That's something special! I feel...a bit...of.....up.....grade....itis...comin......... no!!! I can't do i!!! If I can just hit the lottery.

I think for the amount of that set an extended warranty would be worth it if it doesn't cost too much. I paid less than $1200 for each of my two sets, but you're talking closer to $3000 for yours. At that price I don't think I would chance not getting one. I mean, I would hate to see three grand go up in smoke just a few months after the warranty was up.
If you purchase the Pioneer Elite with a credit card like AE, that extends the warranty 1 year and you will get 3 years of warranty. You have to ask yourself how much the Elite that is selling for $2600 on sale now will be worth after the 3 years. Pioneers, along with Panasonic and Sony are very reliable.

I got my set without an extended warranty. If something goes wrong after the 3 years it may not cost as much to fix as the extended warranty costs. If it costs more than the TV is worth at that time then hopefully there will be a TV as good as the Kuro Elite at that time for much less money than what I paid for Kuro Elite today. If the Elite keeps going I can keep it for 10 years as the picture quality on this set compares very favorably to the screening of Quantum of Solace I saw on DLP at my local theater. Any bigger than a 50" screen, one should seriously consider FP. They look good now. I bet in 3 years the quality and prices of FP will be significantly improved over today's models.

Consumer Reports advised against extended warranties for tvs.
