I am on the Studio 17 right now (says studio right on it) it has an eSata port on the left side. It says eSATA right on it. It even has an HDMI port a 1394 port (like a mini USB maybe), 4 USB ports an Ethernet port and a standard VGA port as well as an SD/MMC MSPro card reader port.

Mine does not seem to have a firewire port though not that I will ever need one.

I have had this computer since December 21, 2008 and I am currently typing this on it. It most certainly does have an eSATA port on the left side of the laptop along with the Wi-Fi/Bluetooth switch, external VGA port, HDMI port, two USB ports, ethernet port, firewire port, media card reader and PCMCIA card slot which I currently have occupied by a multi-media remote control.

The right side of the laptop consist of the On/Off push-button switch, power plug-in, two more USB ports, slot-loading Optiarc DVDRWBD BC-5600S blu-ray drive, two headphone/ext. speakers ports, and one microphone port.

I didn't opt for the finger print reader either!

Overall, the laptop has performed flawlessly. I use PowerDVD 9 Ultra to play blu-rays on this laptop when the urge hits and I must say that I have experienced no problems whatsoever!

Awesome! Yes the panel is removable, and there are 2 slots for ram, and for dual channel mode. I love this laptop. With my configuration, I can literally crank up ALL the ATI video card settings and play blurays full blast in all their glory.

Default Studio 1723 HDMI Blu-ray to HDTV

I just received a refurbished Dell Studio 1737 from Tiger Direct with Blu-ray. I tried using the HDMI output to both a Sharp Aquos and a Samsung 32" HDTV. I can't get the Blu-ray to work through the HDMI out connection. Apparently the issue is with the anti piracy security coding. Has anyone had any success with this? It works great on the lap top screen but I was hoping to be able to watch Blu-ray DVDs at hotels that I stay at that now have flat panel HDTVs.

The HDMI 1.3 output will not stream video from bluray, if you want to do that I recomend AnyDVD-HD, which won't be discussed further, but it works, and its great, I use it at home for my other TV that dosent have a player.

Your hdmi port will pass the audio without it however. Just as a side note.

There is also a firmware update for the Sony bluray drive in our machines.

I just bought the same kind of laptop new from Dell and I connect it to my 52" Magnavox LCD all the time for Blu-ray with no problems. Couldn't begin to tell you why it works for me, but not for you. I just wanted to say it is possible, however.
