I think you guys missed what he said, he has read and read and read, he did take some time and is confused wuit telling him to take the first step and do it himself lol he all ready took the first step.

Chonbon there has got to be a home theater specialist in your area, im In Alaska and we have a really nice store that will come out and build an addition on to the house and walk you through the purchase of equipment, thats how I started to learn was talking to them. Now I found this forum and it helps a lot more now that I know a little bit from spending time with them for my first major purchase.

Research carefully to get the best qualty you can. Grevlin gave some good prices but I'd take 500 off of the PJ and put it in the center. That is where the dialogue is coming from. 600 for rears and surrounds is lowish, jack it up a bit. Cables very important, stands also.

Popular brands aren't everything, go to a proper store and check proper gear. Stay out of Fry's and Best Buy, usually the staff in a proper HT store knows way more than most (I know not all) kids working at Best Buy.

Buy some mags, some people think the reports are biased, but it gives you an idea of what is out there. And they aren't completley biased, they won't give stars to something that others give half a star to.

I think you just have to go to the projector forum, speaker forum, receiver, amp and pre-amp forums, etc. to get all the info.

Good Luck

Then you take your wife, girlfriend, or find a willing woman. Make sure that she is beautiful on the inside. Then Spend $10,000 making the perfect wife. Boob job, lipo, etc. Then you will have three great things to enjoy!
10k would only get you one boob. Of course if she's off kilter to begin with

I would take one thing at a time here you already have you equipment so first thing if you were to ask me would be to get the projector and the screen you want...from their I would find a reciever that you like...then all the speakers....then the other stuff like cables, power conditioner, etc. Start with one thing at a time and work your way to what you believe is best. 12,000 can go along way especially in this economy if you find the right places to buy them at. my whole system cost around 5k give or take and I couldn't even imagine having a bigger budget to buy more stuff....

[QUOTE=chonbon;1799448]scrapped everything...
12,000 limit...would prefer under 10,000 though

I just dropped about that much. What I can tell you is to look at your local high end dealers. Two in my area were going out of biz and I got some kick ass stuff cheap ! Go to a high end speaker or amp website and click on find dealer to see what is in your area.

If you are starting from scratch you have to go 2.35:1 and make sure you're 3d proof get a 120hz projector!

you have a screen, but aren't sure of the size....?

Do you know for a fact that it's NOT a 4:3 screen?

I don't want to throw out specific brands for everything, but I think

Projector ~ $3,000
L/R/C ~ $1,500 each ($4,500)
Four Surrounds ~ $400 each ($1,600)
AVR ~ $1,200
Subwoofer ~ $1,000

That would be a good distribution in my opinion.... but it depends on what you value most

If I were personally going out to start from scratch with that budget (but already had the PS3) I'd probably get this setup for speakers alone...

B&W 703's 2 @ $1,600 each
B&W HTM7 1 @ $800
B&W 686 2 @ $250
B&W 685 2 @ $300
ED A-5 350 1 @ $800

Then spend $3,000 for a projector, and another $1,000 or so for an AVR, then plan on some speaker stands etc.
