It's not just a ride off the office, it IS the office. It's literally the exact same show in a different work arena. The reason the Office worked so well is that so many people could relate to it regardless of where they worked, because "The Office" is transferable to almost any and every workplace situation imaginable.

That's why Parks and Recreations sucks -- it never needed to be made.

It's got Rashida Jones. What more do you want in a show?

Parks and Recreation, Amy Poehler's new comedy from the producers of The Office, did fairly solid for normal networks/good for NBC at 8:30 p.m, with a 3.9/11 and 6.77 million viewers. But given that it was sandwiched between two episodes of The Office that both outperformed it considerably (the 9 p.m. Office almost beat it by a whole ratings point), NBC has to be a little concerned.

I would bet those numbers drop even further next week.

I think that amy Phoeler is a mix of Michael Scott and Andy Bernard in this show. The 1st episode of P&R wasn't good, but hopefully it picks up.

Default It is a pilot people!

Most shows that we all like now had a bad first couple episodes. Just look at the first episode of Family Guy and Futurama. As those shows went on they became great. I think it had some very funny moments.

It may be a pilot, but pilots are like first impressions you only get one chance to be great and that wasn't even good.

It is funny that you think a pilot being bad makes the show good...
I LOVED Family Guy when it started.
Futurama as well.
I watched both from the first showing...both were original.

Neither were a knockoff of a MUCH better show that was bookending the pilot showing exactly how poor a facsimile it is.

This show is garbage.

MAYBE they change the format entirely and it makes for a good show, but i doubt it.

The whole time I was watching this, I couldn't help but think even the camera work is a blatant ripoff of the Office, but there are no characters I'm actually interested in learning about.

Well, now that it is night time...and I feel a little less robbed of my time

If people like it, I hope they get to watch more of it ... Dont hurt me to let them have a show.

I was just thinking how funny it is to bash a show I have no interest in. At least T:TSCC is a show I liked, making it worth my time to cry about it

I cry over all my favorites, and spit and the ones that aren't lol. I was just thinking about the shows I watch which are currently endangered and well 50% of the shows I watch are currently on the chopping block, so that really sucks.

Despite Poehler and Jones it's so bland. Doesn't seem like it should be possible.

Please move to television forum

Wow just noticed that nobody has been posting about Parks and Rec for nearly a year now. I will admit that after the first 4 episodes of season 1, I myself completely tuned out of this show and forgot about it. Than a few months ago I kept seeing rave reviews for the second season and talking about how the show got a major turn around and has become quite a great show, so I gave it another chance. I was very surprised to see that all the hype was right, the characters really all found their grooves and everything seemed to be firing on all cylinders. So I watched the first season, which turned out to only be 6 or 7 episodes, and than caught up on all of season 2 which has aired so far, and is right about 25 episodes I believe with another 6 or 7 original episodes left to air this season. I found myself laughing hysterically at how the characters had evolved from complete Office rip-offs to being much much funnier than their counterparts. Ron f'ing Swanson and Andy are definitely my favorite with Tom providing a lot of extra comic relief, but really when you get right down to it, everybody on the show is hilarious in their own ways. Anyways I couldn't recommend this show anymore, so please people do yourselves a favor and give Parks and Rec another shot. It's come along way, just like the Pit.

This is definitely an amazing show. This and Community are much better than The Office this year, which has for the most part been pretty disappointing.

And yes, Ron F-ing Swanson.

I'd compare this show to The Office in that both shows had pretty poor (and brief) first seasons and then greatly improved in season two. They showed the first five episodes of The Office last night on TBS and I'd forgotten how bad they were.

I read that Paul Schneider (Mark Brendanawicz) is getting written off the show. Apparently it was always the plan that Schneider would leave the show because he's based on a real person who worked in the government and then went private sector. Also Schneider is getting more film roles so he's more busy, but it is possible he could return to the show eventually. Adam Scott and Rob Lowe will be joining the show for two episodes this season, and Scott will be a regular next season and Lowe will be in at least six episodes.

I used to be a HUGE Office fan but the last couple seasons have just been pretty terrible IMO, they turned Jim and Pam into giant jackasses and Michael and Dwight just because very very annoying, not the least bit funny. Granted they have had a couple episodes the past month or so that seemed like a throwback to the old days. I do also love Community. I haven't really been into half hour shows because they never seemed to have much for me, but this past season we got Community, Parks and Rec and Modern Family and I have been laughing nonstop over these three. If only Modern Family could have been part of the Thursday Night Comedy Block, but being ABC that ain't gonna happen, lol. But ANYWAYS, this is not the Office, Modern Family or Community threads so no need for me to talk anymore about them or I'll never get this thread back on topic.

For me, Paul is really the only character that hasn't clicked as much as the others. He has his moments, usually funniest when Tom does his impression but I wasn't sad to hear that he'd be leaving. I am a huge Adam Scott fan so when I read he'd be coming on the show I felt 2 things, excited that he was coming to one of my favorites but sad also because that probably means the end for Party Down the other show he stars on. And Rob Lowe is kinda meh for me, I've never really him funny and I have no idea how he's going to fit in here so that's a wait and see for me.

been of big fan of the office and 30 rock but parks and rec is definitely the best of all the nbc comedies right now, every episode of season 2 has been incredible.

you can kind of see the pattern of 30 rock and the office, there were some great seasons as long as the humor of their situation lasted e.g. working in an office and working on a tv show, but after that material dried up there doesnt seem to be as much there. parks and rec doesnt seem as tied to the government work aspect, they have made their characters more independent so it may stay good for longer

Megan Mullally Returns

Quote:
Ron Swanson better watch his back.

Megan Mullally is set to reprise her role as Ron’s (Nick Offerman) manipulative ex-wife Tammy on Parks and Recreation in an episode to air early next season.

“I’m doing one next week or the week after,” the Emmy winner told us prior to last night’s Paley Center panel for Starz’ Party Down, which she joins in its second season.

Mullally, who is the real-life wife of Offerman, was tight-lipped about what’s in store for the onscreen duo, but she did tease that there’s “going to be more fireworks… What I’ve heard so far is extremely high stakes.”

As previously reported, Mullally’s Party Down costar Adam Scott is joining Parks and Recreation in a regular role later this season.

“Rob Lowe and I come in as state auditors because they’re having a financial crisis in Pawnee,” Scott said. “We’re not exactly welcome in the department.”

Although Scott is reported to be a love interest for Amy Poehler’s Leslie Knope, both he and Mullally are hoping that they’ll get to share some scenes on the NBC comedy. Suggests Scott: “Maybe the librarian and the state auditor will hook up.”
Finally some details on Rob Lowe and Adam Scott's characters! Sounds awesome.

Last nights "94 meetings" was another excellent outing for the P-Rex crew. Everybody knows how much Ron Effing Swanson hates meetings, and April's screwup about March 31st was fantastic, I think my 2 favorite people who came to complain where the purple bikini man and the guy who yells at 5-year-olds for lack of talent. When Ron stopped by "Zuzu's" house I was laughing every second, the parents are so chipper and unbelievably happy and than April's sister turns out to not only look a lot like her, but have the same hairstyle, eye roles, text addiction and mannerisms of her it was great. Not to mention we yet again got to see Ron effing Swanson whittling a duck.

Here's also the latest sneak peak at Rob Lowe joining the cast
Quote:
The exiting Brothers & Sisters actor joins the NBC comedy next month as one of two state employees (the other being Party Down‘s Adam Scott) brought in to fix Pawnee’s budgetary crisis. Executive producer Michael Schur likens it to “an action movie where the FBI shows up and the local cops say, ‘This is our jurisdiction! And the FBI says, ‘Not anymore!’” But Lowe’s character, Chris Traeger, wins everyone over with his “very optimistic, positive, forward-thinking” attitude, explains Schur, who hints that he “very quickly falls into a romantic entanglement” with one of the locals. “I don’t want to spoil who it is because it’s kind of a surprise.”
Why do I get the feeling this "surprise" is going to be Anne?
