Mine is Christoper Nolan. Every movie he has made I have liked with my favorites being The Dark Knight, Memento, The Prestige, and Batman Begins.

What I admire most about Nolan is that th eguy only made 6 films...And (IMO) they are brilliant films. They take more than one viewing. Especially his last 4.

#1: Stanley Kubrick
Akira Kurosawa
Danny Boyle
David Lean
Guillermo Del Toro
Terry Gilliam
(pre-King Kong) Peter Jackson
Sergio Leone
Quentin Tarantino
Alfonso Curon
Peter Greenaway

There's several female directors I could mention but of their work I've only liked one, maybe two movies. Based on that I'd have to say Sally Potter, because her film, Orlando, was so amazing - yet everything that followed was lackluster. I'd also add Mira Nair to the list - I've liked all her movies but I'm not in love with them. I did, however, have the privilege of meeting her and she's a sweetheart!

PTA is easily my choice. Boogie Nights and There Will Be Blood are near perfect movies in my opinion. Magnolia and The Master are wonderful too.

I was just watching the Social Network because I have been collecting all of David Fincher's movies and it made me want to see other ideas for great directors. Over the last couple of years I have also become a big fan of Zach Synder and been developing a huge love for Christopher Nolan ever since The prestige (of course I love the Dark Knight films too but his other works really show his ideas) - I think Inception is his greatest work.

So who else should I be checking out?
I'm sure you're well aware of Matthew Vaughn but based on your tastes, you'd probably enjoy his work a lot.

Just checked him out on IMDB. I've seen all his films. He has produced alot but only directed 5 films. All were great though and I see he has several new projects in the works. Thanks for the heads up.

I'm going to have to go wtih David Lynch. I can't think of any other director who has 3 films with scores of 27/30 (or more) from me, not to mention 3 more films with a score of 25/30 or 26/30.

Ridley Scott, Michael Bay and Quentin Tarantino are also very good imo.
Tarantino. Inglorious basterds I'd the best movie ever made.

I know alot of people like Tarantino. I think he is hit or COMPLETE miss. I agree that inglorious is amazing...so is Pulp Fiction, Jackie Brown..then there is from Dusk til dawn (the first 60 minutes of that movie have hope, then the REALLy bad C-grade movie begins) just my opinion

That's kind of unfair though. You compared movies that Tarantino both wrote and directed, to one that he only co-wrote and played a role in.

(I know he wrote Pulp Fiction with Roger Avary, but you get the point)
