The reason I brought up my TV, and the reason I think it's my TV and not the PS3 is because I've seen it with my own eyes and also I've not heard too many people give the right answer. I always hear that the answer is grain is apart of film and that we should accept it. Now I understand that grain comes with film but in some cases I don't think people are seeing grain.

Oh, so the problem in this case isn't the grain - it's the posterization. I didn't comment on it because I figured it was a result of the camera. If that's what you really see then I'd check your setup. Get it calibrated as that should reduce the posterization, even if it doesn't get rid of it. It can also be the result of scaling, or just a plain crappy encode. I don't have NIN and I'm not that familiar with it so I can't say for sure.
Actual grain is a different matter however and some of it is not only expected, but actually a part of the image of most movies. |

#1 you need to calibrate your set
What you're seeing is CCD noise from the master tape, and the last one just looks like a macroblock, but it's impossible to tell from the pics. Concert footage with the bright, dynamic, fast moving colored lighting is very very hard to compress well. This is one of the cheaper DLPs they've put out, could be any number of issues, but I'd go with bad downscaling. I'd definately reset your PS3 to 720p now that it's patched as that's your TV's native res. |
