Remember, it's not over until it's over.
The pressure should be put so hard, not with just 3-to-1, but seven, eight, or even ten to one. Universal seems to be behind HD-DVD quite firmly, so it will take a clear, polite, campaign to ask them to offer quality Blu-Ray offerings by next year. Even if they were to begin offering Blu-Ray movies, it would take time to phase in production. They feel that they are making a good decision by going with HD-DVD, and from their viewpoint, they wish to take advantage of costs, which is a good business tactic, but with the much larger Blu-Ray support base now, as opposed to 6 months ago (I looked at the statistics), this year's end or at the next CES event, would be an ideal time to phase in Blu-Ray production. I personally admire their courage for taking such a step on their part, but would certainly advise them to phase in Blu-Ray offerings to capture market share in the rapidly growing Blu-Ray market. The incentive to be part of a technological innovation in optical storage should be a motivator on their part. Since the amount of Blu-Ray titles is very small compared to the vast amounts of DVD's out there these days, Universal should be compelled to take a stake in the market share, to compete with the other studios, rather than take an opposing format. Once again, smart decisions, smart results. I'd be proud to cheer in Universal into the Blu-Ray fold. It can't happen immediately, as many would want. The smart way would be to phase the offerings over the next year, as development and production can take place. I'd be a happy person if more people thought like me on this topic across the Net. |

The weird thing is this cheapo A2 player is still only 1080i. Who would anyone want that (except for the 7 free titles)? If you buy that crappy 1080i player then you will need to buy a new 1080P player sooner or later to enjoy the best picture for all it's glory.
I hate it when the HD-DUD try to compare their 1080i junk with any of BD's 1080P hardware. Rather, they should compare this player to an upscale DVD player. ![]() |

I wouldn't get too excited - the HD-A2 stock at the local Best Buy disappeared quickly once the $299.99 price point hit, whereas both Sammy's and the Sony are still on the shelf not getting much love at $799.99.
Milo, the average Best Buy shopper is the type of person who isn't going to be moving to a 1080p display until their 1080i displays die, if they even have much of a concept of what 1080i and 1080p is. I predict this war shall continue for a while..... Last edited by Nick Graham; 06-05-2007 at 08:23 PM. |

they make money on the movies...and the people who would pay so little for a player will likely get scared away from actually buying a movie once they get 5 free movies.... I mean...if you buy a HD player for 300 bucks and you get 5 free movies....why spend more when you're already looking for the "cheaper alternative" ?... high-def formats are still on the pricey side.....even at 300 bucks... 150 is about the price that J6P will jump on.......and until then, the PS3 is going to be the "popular" choice for a BD player as you're killing 3 and 4 birds with one stone...especially if this person has kids... |
