$5,000?

Monitor Audio for you, my friend, and separate receiver/amplifier components, easily. Let me think for a second.

Silver line of Monitor, a nice SVS cylinder sub - a good Elite receiver with a Rotel/Outlaw/Emotiva amplifier...

But seriously, before I get carried away - seriously, 5k as a budget? 5k??

I'd say for that amount of money, you can be unique as can be. Rest assured you'll be the only member here with Focal speakers: Generally speaking they're every bit as good as B$W and they make their speakers from the ground up like Dynaudio and B$W.

Mains Focal 726 v http://www.musicdirect.com/product/80449 $1695
Sub Focal http://www.musicdirect.com/product/80571 $795
Center http://www.musicdirect.com/product/80451 $495
Rears http://www.musicdirect.com/product/80434 $495x2
Denon 3808ciReceiver:http://www.amazon.com/Denon-AVR-2809...9923936&sr=8-2

Total=$5175 plus shipping. I'm sure 1)You can still haggle for a cheaper price from music direct 2) Somebody here can find you a cheaper Denon/marantz/yamaha at that level.

You'll definitely have bragging rights in the speaker department. You can always go more expensive on the focals and go to the 900 series but I'm just trying to stick to your budget.

RD, I'm definitely going to start referring to them as B$W from now, on,

You're lucky I'm the stereotypical defensive Klipsch owner, either.

I remember messing with Focals too back when Sound Advice (Tweeter) carried them!

I've always put a "$" between the B W because I feel the magic in this brand starts at the 803 series and up-then you're talking about a 5-6k speaker which is way out of most people's budget. But don't get me wrong once you get to the 803, they are pretty damn good but $$$.
The Focals I'm referring to are the next ones up from what tweeter used to carry.

If you are going to recommend seperates I would respectfully not take this route at all, imho. Don't even bother with a receiver if you are thinking about seperates. Go with an Integra DHC 9.9 for $1500 or another pre/pro and then get an amplifier. The sound quality will be better than any receiver/amplifier combo.

And then if you do go this route, and your budget is 5k, I would hold off on 7.1 and go 5.1 getting the best towers and center you can afford. Then proceed to the surrounds. If you start off right the first time, upgrading in the future wont be nearly as painful.

$5000.00 to spend.....I'd go Quad. I could get you in 5.1 (21L'S, L center, and 11L's for rears - and money left over for your choise of sub) for about $2500.00 (shipping would be extra). Then you would only have to buy your prepro and poweramp. I would consider the Audiogon market for the poweramp. Great deals over there! PM me if interested in prices on that package.

I think thats a great idea. Monitor audio silver series are fabulous, and great choices for electronics as well!!!

However prerich knows I can tell you from experience I would choose this over the last post I just made. Those speakers are phenomenal, I know it because I own them. And they are the best looking speaker you will find. Then you will have plenty left over for the electronics and subwoofer.
