Me and my pops were like: whoa! My mom and my two sister were like: meh. My mom turned around when she saw The Matrix on Blu.

To me, it seems like 9 outta 10 people are easily impressed by demo material like planet earth or Iron Man, but the vast majority really could care less about anything else.

My parents cared enough to buy a Blu-ray player for themselves. My sister didn't care. My ex noticed a difference, but she didn't really see the wow factor around blu-ray. Same with her parents.

To get the best reaction, you have to pick the movie that they love each frame of.

funny thing is that my mom does notice the difference but she still doesn't think it's enough to stop buying DVD. she just bought seven pound and burn after reading DVD. Like another guy said they do notice how good looking the TV is but not the PS3 quality. All the credits goes to the TV no matter what. That's why when People get a HDTV they think that's all it is. Lol

My mom visited me and wanted to watch "The Dark Knight"; after a few times saying she couldn't really notice the difference (with other movies), she changed her mind and commented how amazing the IMax scenes were.To me the difference is night and day; I don't even like watching DVDs any more, even though I have like 70 DVDs and only 25 Blu-rays, all I watch are blus.

I hate it when people buy an hdtv and don't know what to do with it, so then I'm forced to open my big mouth about blu-ray and hd sat/cable programming. Also!!! I hate it when parents buy their kids a PS3 just for them to play it on a regular tv. There's no point in owning one without the other. End of rant

Dad was super-impressed. Took my mom a long time to come around. My sister still doesn't notice any difference.

The leap from watching dvd's on a regular non-upconverting player to blu is insane.

The leap from watching dvds on a great upconverting player, ie Oppo, to blu, is definitely a step up, and worth it, but it's not quite as insane, at least in terms of PQ. AQ is still off the charts.

Default Dad could not care less.

My Mum has actually seen a Blu Ray, she's probably heard one through the floor. My Dad has seen some although DVD good enough for him even though he has a 720p TV, that's what I use.

My wife didn't care at first, until I bought Planet Earth. She loves animals!!! Anyway, she is now a bit more picky about PQ then a year ago or so, which is nice.

None of my family or friends could care less.

Her son was in sheer astonishment the whole movie (Cars). He kept saying things like, "Wow, look at how much detail you can see", "The picture's so sharp", "The colors are so much more vibrant", "Damn!", "Oh my God!", etc...
As for myself, the difference is nearly like night and day. Even the credits are more enjoyable on Blu.
Just curious but, how old is your wife's son?

My wife was like, "Wow that looks amazing". Her first hi-def experience was HD DVD (Serenity) though, which was pretty much the same pq wise. Now every time we see a good action movie at the theaters she says, "we have to get that on blu-ray".

Pretty cool you have a wife that not only likes Blu-ray, but action movies as well.

My wife was floored.

My mom said, quoting here:

"It just looks bluer to me."

My girlfriend said, after seeing our fist Blu-ray (Spider-Man 3) :
Quote:
It looks great but what's that noise?
I answered:
Quote:
That's not noise, that's film grain
... ensues a long explanation on film grain and why it's there.

Some weeks later, showing another Blu-ray to my parents, which was also their first viewing of a BD movie, they said:
Quote:
It looks really nice!
