AMC's simply because they seem to be the only theaters with an IMax screen. Sony Metreon (San Francisco) as well, that may be AMC as well, not sure.
If I'm not watching an IMax showing I'd almost rather watch it at a home theater to be honest. Of course the movie theater candy selection is the best.. Sour for the win ![]() |

Cinemark, I have one close to my house and another about 45 min away that has a digital projection theater with a huge screen. I will make the trip there for Transformers 2

Mine is Epicenter 5 in downtown Charlotte- its like a nightclub-theater. Buy drinks and take them with you in to watch the movie, letting the gorgeous attendants help you along the way

They only have like 4 in the Minnestoa. The franchise is called Five-Star-Cinemas. I LOOVEE The seats..and they way the theaters look. Cheap tickets and concessions. REAL butter on the popcorn! only flaw is the Pepsi products.

We have all the big-name theater chains in the Chicagoland area, but the following are by far the best.....
The Hollywood Boulevard theater is a real treat. website link ![]() ![]() ![]() The Tivoli theater in suburban Downers Grove has been around for decades. Very cool architecture. Has the 2nd best sound system I've heard in a theater. ![]() ![]() ![]() The Muvico 'Rosemont 18' theater near the O'Hare airport has an ear-shattering sound system, as well as the best picture quality I've ever seen. According to their site, this location was the first all-digital theater in the U.S. using Sony's 4K projectors. The first movie I saw there was Rambo, which the blu-ray pales in comparison after that experience. website link Last edited by Offender_Mullet; 05-06-2009 at 05:33 AM. |

There's a couple.
The best I've ever been in is...El Capitan on Hollywood BLVD in L.A....if you haven't been there then you're in for a treat. The two Mann's Chinese Theaters are awesome too. There is one in Atlanta called the Buckhead Backlot, and you sit in table instead of seats, but the chairs are really comfortable, and you can eat and drink anything you want from the bar and kitchen. |

At the moment, there is a Cobb theater that is pretty great as far as comfort goes, so I always go there. It doesn't hurt that it's like 10 minutes from where I live either. lol. |

Unfortunately I'm nowhere near my favorite theaters.
The first would be the Rose Theatre in Port Townsend, WA. www.rosetheatre.com Just a beautiful remodeled theatre with the best sound of any theatre I've been in. (My only complaint is that the owner and some of the managers play the movies too quiet - or will turn the sound down for the loud parts.) They even clean the popcorn off the hinges of the seats between shows - and they've got the best popcorn of any theatre I've ever been to or worked in. My favorite theatre to work in was the Egyptian in Seattle. I love that booth. I'm also proud of the presentations we had at the remodeled Regent in Westwood CA. While I worked there I was told by studio techs. that our presentation surpassed that of the Bruin & Fox up the street. I'm also very proud of the restoration/upgrade to the projection system at the Golden State Theatre in Monterey, CA that I was part of a few years ago. www.goldenstatetheatre.com I switched out the old 2k lamphouse for a 4k, installed a new screen that's 40' wide and 25' high and designed it to show older films (in the 1.33 or 1.66 ratio) as tall as possible whereas the 1.85 and 2.35 films are as wide as possible (basically just using two lenses - one for scope and one for flat and adjustable side and top/bottom masking). We also switched to reel/to/reel system in order to show archive prints. Last but not least the owner added a speed control on the motors so we could show silent films at their proper speed (along with live pipe organ accompaniment). My only complaint about that theatre is the sound. Movies there just sound like crap and I couldn't get the owner to allow professional movie theatre sound technicians in. I've yet to go to a megaplex (Regal, etc.) and not have something major to complain about... whether it be sound or picture or cleanliness. |

AMC used to be my favorite chain, with the movie watcher points and all. But one of the theaters near me is like teenage central. And not well behaved teens either. Its like going to see a movie at the monkey cage in the zoo.
So, currently Krikorian wins. Nice new theater. All digital. Great sound. And just nicer experience over all. |

my favorite is any theater where the crowd knows to shut up and stop using their cell phones so I don't have to yell at them and have them cry and run out while spilling their candy.
(this happened during Knocked Up, the victim was a 13 year old girl giving her friend the play by play on what was going on in the movie. the most pathetic part was that the people around her didn't have the decency to say anything so I had to turn round and yell at her from 8 rows away.) |
