yes he can upgrade the proc and mobo for cheaper but there really isnt any reason to upgrade if all you are using is 1 or 2 gigs of ram. Kinda defeats the purpose, even if you are not using crappy vista like some of us.

I dont like Vista either but it has the updates I need and runs all procs at 100% using the full 8gigs of memory when I need it to rendering out of Maya...its really a thing of beauty lol

Did you build your PC? I guess Windows 7 doesn't require that much RAM then.

not all of us need 8 gb of ram either. i mean..i'm not saying he should upgrade to something as slow as my athlon 64. but 2g is still plenty for windows 7. if we're talking vista..you prolly need all 8

but yea..dell has some nice core 2 duo set ups for 400 bucks..so thats really the way to go when its time to upgrade

I've always liked HP though.

Oh, and does having small HDD have any affect to PC performace? I only have 13GB free left out of 130GB. I'm thinking of getting an external 1TB Western Digital HDD soon.

It doesn't affect your performance until you fill it up! Haha, as long as you maintain the drive and defragment it every so often it should be fine no matter how much data you have.

Okay Im back! Sorry I was gone for abit. The xp I was running was a modified like I said, soooo I downloaded it and now it can't update cause they found out its not genuine. So I got rid of it before I get a fine. lol
Off topic but I put Vista back im my current pc and wow, I can't do ANYTHING!! SOOOOO SLOW. Not joking at all. Having email and Firefox open is enough to slow it down. So now Im gonna build my new pc asap.
I want to get 64bit but I don't want to spend the extra money since I already have Vista...but 32bit...
Well I'll make my mind up when I come down to it...Maybe wait for Windows 7?

Make sure you turn off everything extra and see if it helps speed up vista for you.

Things to TURN OFF:

1. UAC here is a link: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windo...windows-vista/

2. Windows Aero Theme (this thing is just a pig, why cant they get it right like Apple!)

3. Vista Theme Basic - you can find this under Window color and appearance.

You can probably do more but this at least will get you started in making your system perform the best it can.

If you have the OEM edition, you should contact your vendor usually.

i know it works because i have done it. As was just previously mentioned though i think it only works on retail copies. I think he will have to go through his oem manufacturer
