I'm sure it's a bit of both..like everything else the best media servers/software developers will be committed to fixing issue etc...the space is exploding and everyone is trying to grab a piece..those that fix the quickest and provide the best feature set will win.

I'd do a quick search around and see if it's been reported etc..I've installed simplecenter and TVersity but haven't had time to really test them out much yet..and I don't have large media files at this point to help out on that side.

I'm sure if you can find a decent third party media server, you might be happier. I don't know for certain, but I bet WM11 puts alot of overhead on its files!

If you do find one you like, let us know!

Default Windows Media 11

WM11 is easy to set up.

Open it, go to tools, options, Library, go to share, and then click the items that you want to share.

I have no problems with MP4 files that are formatted for the PS3. I use a program to format video to play on my PS3. I usually just copy them to my PS3 instead of streaming them.

I had bought this: http://www.amazon.com/Netgear-HDXB10.../dp/B000GM7F6O

but I returned it because it was too expensive. It was over $200.

For $200, I'm having Cat6 cables installed in 4 rooms in my house. Much better deal. I can still use my wireless for when I want to be outside with my laptop.

I'm using Cat6 instead of Cat5 because I want to future protect myself. I want the extra protection that Cat6 comes with, the wiring, crosstalk, etc...

WM11 is ok, but I use Nero. Nero is not free or cheap. Nero translates other types of video to play on my PS3. It does not work with all types of media.

I usually just use a PS3 video converter to convert my video to a type that my PS3 will read.

Good Luck
