But with XBL you can always download it again if you like sicne you own those rights when you purchased it. When I recorded all my HD with my PC from 2001 to 2004 I had unlimited storage for HD since all I had to do was add another hard drive. At one point I had several terabytes of shows. Now I mainly use my HDTiVos and use the PC for archiving select broadcasts.

As long as the program can be downloaded again for no additional cost, the storage space doesn't really matter although the download speed will,

Many of us have been saying this about Microsoft well before either format launched. I'm amazed they finally admitted it.

Hopefully those interested in HD discs will now make the informed choice.

TV shows via the 360 marketplace are forever. Even if you delete it, as long as you have your gamer tag and account you can download it again.

I will always rather have something tangible than something that floats through the wires in my walls. Besides, how many HDD's can people keep around to store all their digital HD(50Gb) movies? Besides, a bookshelf of BD with a label on each spine just looks more impressive than a stack of hard disks with no label as to what is in there...at least that's my opinion.

this is another form of preference...

I am not a fan of downloading movies..

I download movies until I can actually own them...

the real format war should be DVD vs BD vs downloads...

DVD's for the cheap route and people who can't afford a higher format....downloads for people who like that...and BD for people who like that as well..

yeah ps3 works like that....

but that's just retarded when I can just pop my BD in and it's right there instead of downloading...deleting....and then downloading again...or having to by more hard-drive space....

I hate more hardware....but again...this is all preference as you probably prefer more hardware over discs...

The Don, I agree. We are on the same page if you will read my first statement on this thread. I will not "download" movies I have to pay for!! I only do it for south park because I am a hardcore fan.

So what do they think will happen... consumers will start gobbling up $10-$20 movie downloads??? Like we're actually getting a great deal.. when it's not even tangible?!

Here's how I might consider downloading an HD movie.. if it's less expensive than going to a theater and seeing it.

But I doubt movie studios will let new releases go for 3 bucks a pop.

"Pure ignorance". That should be the name of the pertaining article.

ahh I must have misread what you said or confused you with the other person that I was discussing with

either way as long as there is no 'argument' and this is just a discussion, it's all good either way...

As long as the download experince mirrors the disc experience, I will be first in line to start downloading movies instead of viewing from optical media. But of course I would still need to own that movie so I can downlaod it any time and the experience would need to be the same as from the disc. I have 102 BD and 204 HD DVD titles. I would have no problem owning them as downloadable content if the viewing experience from downloads was identical to the optical disc. Then i wouldn't have to mess with removing those crappy stickers from the packaging and worry about having storage space for all those titles.

So if you pay to 'own' something, it's possible to lose it if something happens to your account. Reminds me of DIVX. No thanks.

Biggest lie from M$ up above is the claim that downloads are cheaper than optical discs., conveniently ignoring how much hard drives really cost.

Hmmm...3 bucks a pop that sounds nice. Studios just don't get it though. Man, they think 99 cents a song is a steal. A $20 or even $30 a month charge for all you can download service and maybe, just maybe things like lime wire and other programs would be obsolete, especially if the downloads were virus free and really fast downloads.

Not at all. I'm glad you did this!

But I do agree with JTK that this needs it's own thread... this news needs to spread like a virus and perhaps then it might penetrate the thick skull of the average hd-dud fanboy.
If you can even get through one person, it's good for something.

they are already plotting a 'pay as you go' internet service as we speak...

whether or not it actually happens is another story...

this is how they want to start doing things...

I already have on-demand and a DVR....

If I sell my 360 or something happends to my account, yes, I would lose everything. That is why I only download what I am a hardcore fan about and have to have TODAY.

1. How do you get them back when your device dies or move them to another device that comes out with better quality etc?

2. Let's say in 3 years from now it dies and you have 100Gb's accumulated by that point..what's the process.

So technically you might be right but practically you might be wrong. Also not sure how I use that media in other places I may want to. If it's physical I can take it to the cottage regardless if connected..

Hmmm...pay as you go, didn't work for AOL after a few years. They need a always on and just one monthly payment download service. My wife gets them for her Korean music so why not in the USA.

True, but that is why, me being the only one admitting to downloading off 360 marketplace is saying I will backup with a material disk and not just a download. I only do it for South Park because I am a hardcore fan.
