I'm considering getting a netbook just for something cheap and small to mainly use when I travel. I've got a laptop and am probably going to get a desktop as well so I don't need much functionality. The only problem is the lack of a DVD drive. I'd like to watch movies on this when I travel and am not sure how hard it is to copy a DVD onto a flash drive or some other way of transferring. I could take my movies that I have digital copies of and copy them onto a netbook through my Ipod, but I'd like to be able to take some of my TV shows on DVD and put them on the netbook.

Not ideal for when flying, per say, but you could consider a USB optical drive (like these from Amazon) for when you're in the hotel room. They don't seem to be expensive at all.

If I wanted a 13" notebook, though, I'd just get the 15" to 16" notebooks for not very much more than that 13".

The notebook is my main computer.

The netbook is my gadget that I can use in airports and hotels.

Just updating, I was e-mailed a Word document for work, and Open Office had no problems opening it.

Yep, you're right. In fact my netbook shows the little Word and Excel icons for my Word and Excel files now that I have Open Office. Before I downloaded, it was just some generic file icon.
